    A beautiful castle!
The Chillion Castle is one of the best preserved medieval castles cum fortress in the region that can be dated back to the 11th century. It is situated on the banks of Lake Geneva close to Montreux and the scenery here is very scenic and beautiful. Our tour group came by here for a photo-stop where our guide gave us a brief introduction and history about the castle and the role in played in the olden days. We didn't enter the museum as we had a list of attractions to visit thereafter and lacking the time. But it is surely worth coming here to just enjoy the scenery as mentioned and where you can get up and closed to the castle right in front of you, where the feeling of seeing it in the postcard comes alive! Worth it!

    Good place near to Montreux
This is konwn as a stage of "The prisoner of Chillon". This Castle is located at the lakeside and you can enjoy very beautiful scenery. This Castle is precisely in Veytaux, but it's near to the Montreux station. When you visit Montreux, you might want to go here. The visitors can buy a ticket at the castle, but there is a prioly lane for online ticket holder and I recommend that you should buy a ticket in advance. Taking a bus is the easiest way to visit from the Montreux sation(No201 Bux). If you like walking, you might want to visit on foot. It takes about an hour. There are some parties and scenic spots on the way to the castle. I'm sure everyone enjoys it.

Feels like a fairy tale movie!
We did the self gui tour and it was amazing. The castle was beautiful and full of rich history. Beware: to experience the full tour there are many steps and narrow staircases. It would be wise to go on a cool day. The scenery is breathtaking and the history is very interesting. Take the audio self guided tour which is offers several language options.

    Stunning!
An absolutely amazing chateau right on the shore of Lake Geneva not far from Montreux. Protruding out into the lake the Chateau de Chillon looks like the archetypal fairy-tale castle. We had a wonderful local guide who spoke impeccable English and really brought every aspect of the castle to life. Everything about the castle is stunning - the architecture, the ceilings, the walls, the history.... an absolute must-visit if you are in this part of Switzerland.

    Very picturesque.
A lovely old castle on the shores of Lake Geneva, which can be accessed by boat, or a short bus ride from Montreux. The Castle has been renovated in parts, back to the original appearance and it is both interesting and historical. Audio guides are available, which provide a clear perspective of what you are seeing. Beware, there are plenty of steps, but the climbs are worth it. There is a cafe near the entrance which offers good snack food at very reasonable prices. Seating is inside and outside.

    A delightful highlight
Panoramically on the beautiful Lake it was a wonderful highlight. Arriving well before opening time gave an opportunity to tranquilly explore the exquisite surroundings with the only company being a group of fishermen on a nearby pier. Free entry with the Swiss Travel Pass meant the only expense was the essential audio guide, which gave a thorough and absorbing commentary over well more than an hour. First stop was the cellars and crypt with admirable stone features such as columns and arches plus vaulted ceilings. Here also was where the famous prisoner François Bonivard, a Genevan monk, was chained in captivity for 4 years from 1532. Byron’s visit in 1816 led to his poem The Prisoner of Chillon in the same year. Then onwards to the sequence of courtyards and the gorgeous and evocative halls and rooms. A grand Chapel with great frescoes is here. One room has the castle’s documents and an obviously overworked chronicler, as he is now just a skeletal presence. Walking along the marvellous wooden balconies was a memorable experience with added unforgettable vistas all through.

    A landmark on Lake Geneva
Interesting history and architecture. I would recommend a visit. However, I found navigating the castle confusing. Also, I think the admission price is slightly too high, since many of the rooms are just completely empty.
Thank you for your kind message! We take good not of your comments. Looking forward to welcoming you again. Kind regards, Chillon Castle

    Castle
I have not been to many castles, but I don't have to be castle expert to tell this one was astonishing. First time I saw it ( from inside the bus) I felt electricity in my body, however it turns out I was just electrified by the bus button. The castle is amazing, it has bricks, water, roof, amazing emergency exit that I can freely say its locked, there are so many stairs, however once you reach the top everything is totally worth it. Must see if you are near Geneva!

fantastic themed tour with medieval lunch
Great themed tour immersing yourself in medieval times. The guide walks you through the history of the castle and shares what the everyday life of a regular person and a noble person would look like, including what they would eat, drink, and do. It's a very interactive and captivating tour – an hour passed by very quickly, and I discovered a lot. Both adults and children would definitely enjoy it. After the tour, we had lunch cooked based on medieval recipes in the new café nearby and were offered the opportunity to return to the castle and explore on our own. I think it's amazing value when you consider the lunch, dessert, water, coffee, entry ticket, and the funny and entertaining tour guide (priceless!). I would totally recommend it to everyone! The only thing I would add is that I wish the food servings, plates, and cutlery were more authentic to match the medieval food on our plates. And maybe a little memorable freebie, like a medieval recipe on a scroll, would just exceed my expectations!

    Interesting Castle
We enjoyed our visit to this castle. We explored on our own which was easy to do with the brochure and signage. Don’t miss the keep and all the weapons of that time. I can’t imagine how strong you would have to be to use one of them. Also the room with all the furniture chests and trunks was nice.

We went during winter with our 2 kids (aged 8 and 12) and we all loved it. We spent hours exploring the whole castle. Highly recommend getting the audio guide to talk you through each section.
It's a very open castle in terms of being able to see all areas/rooms. We loved it so much we wanted to visit other castles (e.g. Schloss Thun) but being winter the others were closed.

Really enjoyable and interesting visit. There is so much to see, the trip was laid out really well and very informative. Lots of people but it didn’t feel crowded and the surroundings are spectacular. Recommend the walk along the lakeside from Montreux to the castle, it’s about 45 minutes but all flat and so scenic and the view of the castle from the lakeside is beautiful.

Rich in history, Chateau de Chillon was a nice visit. Really glad we toured this old chateau set on/in the lake. Took the audio tour, which was extremely helpful. Not all places are accessible for wheelchairs, or for folks who can't take stairs. We're fortunate enough to have seen the whole place! Highly recommend.

It is a really nice castle sitting on the edge of the lake. It looks relatively small on the outside, but it feels much bigger on the inside. Every path is like an exploration as even ones that look quite short end up taking you on a long journey. There is quite some history in this castle and the authorities have done a great job presenting it. You can spend 1-2 hours here nicely.

Chateau de Chillon is a must see if you are on Lake Geneva! It is very close to Montreux and easily accessed several different ways. We did not need to purchase tickets in advance and our Swiss Travel Pass gave us free access to the Castle.
Someone had mentioned an hour was long enough for the castle, this is not true. If you want to rent the audio headset, which I think would have been good, you need an hour and half.
The castle is huge and they had some areas decorated. I would totally do this castle again if ever in the area and take more time to see it!
