The park takes in a number of walks of varying lengths, some several hours taking you up to dormant volcanoes. There is a map attached to this review. We opted for a much shorter walk which is a circular 35 minute walk (the lilac route numbered 2 on the photo attached) through the forest but on reaching the top point and before returning it is worth carrying on for a further 10/15 minutes or so passing over the road (marked in black passing across the number 1 pink route) heading towards San Miquel until reaching a home made den on the right hand side of the path then you retrace your steps. Here there are some lovely lava rock formations but beyond this the forest walk closes in and the views quite restricted.
It is a pleasant hours interlude if in the area and extraordinarily peaceful. The route is flat and well signposted.

The Fageda d’en Jorda is not your everyday forest. We visited at about noon on a beautiful, sunny, December 2, after most of the leaves had fallen. As a result, the rolling ground was covered in rust-colored leaves, punctuated by dark green moss-covered volcanic boulders. The trees stood like densly packed, thin, tall white and gray poles, catching the sun and shadows in arresting patterns. A bright blue sky behind the trees completed the palette. The forest is, of course, a place of nature, so it changes with the season, the weather, and the time of day. The ground is an endless succession of hills ranging from a few meters to tens of meters in height, strewn with boulders. We were told that the hills had an interesting genesis, formed 12,000 years ago during the last volcanic eruption in the area, when the lava flowed over water, resulting in huge lava bubbles. The trail was wet and instead of walking, we took a bouncing ride through the forest in a horse-cart, joining an enthusiastic visiting school group. Our driver, Alejandro, was very informative and entertaining, even reciting a translation of Joan Maragall’s famous Catalan poem about the forest. The ride was a fun and easy way to see and learn about the forest. It lasted about an hour and cost only 9 Euros per person. There is very infrequent bus service from Olot and Santa Pau, but a taxi costs only about 11 Euros each way from Olot. The forest is well worth a visit.

This is a beautiful beech forest near the city of Olot (Gerone-Catalonia). The way it captures light - especially at dusk - makes this forest one of the most magical places I have ever visited. Undoubtedly, it should be visited in autumn (the best time is perhaps November). Prepare for a long walk, surrounded by incredible trees, multicolored leaves and this indescribable light.

We walked from Olot through the forest to the volcanos of San Margarida and Croscat. Even in March it was quite warm so take a hat and suncream. Such fresh air and the countryside is so gorgeous! 20 km of heaven ...

This is a very special place to get away from it all. Allow yourself to slow the pace and let the horse ride take you through a very special beach forest. Even more beautiful in Autumn.

It may seem like a normal forest to unexperienced eyes. However, la Fageda d'en Jordà wasn't meant to be there. The unique location of this valley, surrounded by the volcanoes and combined with the proximity to the Pyrenees and the coastal ranges has created the perfect environment for this forest to persist in an area it is not meant to be.
Go for a walk along the trails, jump on a car pulled by horses, take your bicycle there... whichever way you choose to visit that place you will discover how amazing and magic it is.
