A must visit place!
Feb 2018 • Family
It's a very old church with interesting baroque architecture all over. It's amazing the way the structure has been kept all this hundreds of years. And it can be appreciated the way babies were baptized in a huge sort of bowl. The color in the altar is based on vegetable paint from those time..Amazing!! Besides...San Francisco Town is a must go place because it has a beautiful river where locals go for a bath in winter and summer...There is an craft bakery where bread is baked in ovens using wood..so the flavor is from another world...it is called San Roque Panadería. 10 minutes from San Francisco there is a small restaurant with an amazing view of the place.

Beautiful Wooden Church
Jul 2018 • Family
Beautifully hand carved and painted inside. Takes only a few minutes to look around. Visit the bakery nearby for hand made goodies.

Very fancy old building
Feb 2018
A very cool building with some very old architecture. There's not really much to do in San Francisco, just this old building, but if you're going up to Santa Fe, it's worth the pull off to see it. A lot of old sculptures by the walls, very interesting.

Upon Kepha, I Will Build My Church
Jun 2017 • Couples
I mulled over how many man-hours were needed to build the Church keeping in mind that no power tools were available. I dared to go inside and saw myself going back 400 years. Spaniards and locals did a good job building structures like these that weathered centuries of storms and earthquakes. (Kepha=Rock)

Beautiful Church built in 1630.
Aug 2017 • Family
This is a beautiful church built in 1630. The church was throughly cleaned inside and out in 2007. Each carved masterpiece inside the church was taken apart, cleaned and put back together. The main altar has 480 pieces. Each street to enter the church square has an arch over the street to keep out large trucks which were causing damage to the overall structure. There is a small sign at one of the streets pointing to a small waterfall. It would be hard to find if not for this sign and it is beautiful. Does not cost anything to see the church or the waterfall.

Not far from the city center, good road access. Just need a little more info for the visitors, but the place is full of history.

Nice to see one of the oldest churches in Panama.
Nov 2016 • Couples
Easy to reach from Santiago. It is on the road from Santiago towards Santa Fé.

The church is in the village of San Francisco and a new church has been costructed alongside it. No admission fees.from there it is a nice drive to la Yeguada passing through Pedregoso and Calobre. In season Calobre is famous for it's watermelon production and exported worldwide. La Yeguada has a large man made lake and nearby a waterfall. There is a small charge to be guided to the warerfall. The views on the way there from Calobre are beautiful.

First visit since renovation a few years ago.

Several years ago I visited this famous old church in the mountains midway between Santiago and Santa Fe. The last time a group from Japan was refurbishing the interior and the building was mostly scaffolding now it is finished and beautiful. If you like to see early architecture this is a nice stop. Also, there was a problem with heavy trucks cracking the structure, now there are arches around the church streets to only allow cars.

16th. Century church.
Jul 2015 • Friends
About 20 minutes from Santiago lies San Francisco. A small village which has one of the oldest churches in Panama. Built in the 16th. Century and we'll maintained. The outside is not spectacular but the inside is mostly of wood and some really nice carvings. Worth a visit if you like old buildings. A new church is being built beside it.

Great Church 15 minutes North of Santiago
Jul 2015 • Couples
I love old buildings - especially churches. This one is off the beaten path, luckily shown to us by locals that we met. Built in 1630, it is one of the oldest churches in Central America. The outside is mostly unremarkable, but the inside has excellent woodwork and carvings. If you come here, have lunch at nearby El Mirador. Beautiful scenic place for drinks, food, and chat.
