- JonScaifeSheffield, United Kingdom245 contributionsGreat beach, clean water, easy parking, good snorkellingWe visited Agios Stefanos beach twice in Oct 2023 despite staying near Kos town we liked it enough that we visited a second time. This was my favourite beach on Kos. The ruins are worth seeing and the beach itself is clean and easy to access. There are plenty of sunbeds on the beach but there is also plenty of clear sand if you don't want to pay for a sunbed. Kastri Islet is interesting and easy to swim to although I couldn't see a way to reach the top of the highest part of the rocky outcrop (and I suspect there were birds up there that are best left undisturbed). On our second visit we did some snorkelling and found there was a reasonable amount to see. The water was calm and clear and a good temperature.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 30, 2023
- Clive DIpswich, United Kingdom120 contributionsGreat placeThis is a lovely beach. You can use the facilities next door. The food from there was excellent. Large portions & good price. For €10.00 you get 2 sunbeds & an umbrella. Very friendly people who run both the sunbeds & the cafe. Water sports are right next to the sunbeds. No problem with them at all.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 24, 2024

- JulesLovesItalyHouston, Texas58 contributionsGreat beach with ruins & snorkel to isletIt was busy but I found parking close to the beach. The beach is safe and I left my towel with car keys there with no issues. Snorkeling is safe for those who are good swimmers to the islet Kastri. Make sure to wear shoes. It was a steep cliff to climb up to the church, but I made it without help & was able to ring the bell! I jumped in the water where the pedal boats & kayaks pull up and it was much easier than going down the cliff to the water. The ruins on the beach are interesting! EnjoyVisited June 2024Traveled soloWritten July 14, 2024
- SydneyPerla653 contributionsNice beach and a nice viewWe went to the beach east of the old ruins of Agios Stefanos. An umbrella plus two sunbeds cost 15€ which is way more than in other places. The beach itself is really nice and the water slightly cool. You can Walk in the water for about 50m before you really need to start swimming. We really enjoyed the stay there.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 26, 2024
- Lee GExeter, United Kingdom28 contributionsGreat beach and a chance to swim out to Kastri IslandThe beach was sandy and the sea warm. There were relics of a monastery on the beach. You can cross to Kastri Island a short distance away by pedalo or sea kayak. We decided to swim across to the island. It had a typical Greek chapel and short walks to explore. We tried rock jumping before swimming back. A must visit destination.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 31, 2024

Do not waste your time coming here. A beautiful greek treasure of a spot has been turned into a tourist trap and taken over by a big hotel. About 1km of this beautiful beach is now owned by a huge new hotel there and they own all the beach chairs and umbrellas. Also, there is a spot owned by a watersport company that tells you a different price to rent their equipment or chairs based on your look and where are you from. We were told 3 different prices for the same thing 😂 by 3 different people just to sit on their chairs regardless if you rent a watersport equipment or not. Considering tourists are rare these days and the economy is bad it is really sad that these people are taking advantage of this spot and trying to cash in on it where everywhere else on the island beach chairs and umbrellas are free for paying customers of the business.

This is a nice enough beach but so much of it is taken up by the hotel. It was our first time so I can just imagine how good it would have been before with the ruins on one side and the wee island. We hired a pedalo for an hour which we thought was extortionate at €20 but worth it to go around the island and have a snorkel. We had hired a car for the day and drove round and where only there for an hour or 2 which was enough.

Unfortunately, the best part of the beach is taken up by some resort who won't let you use their sunbeds. Offered them money and they said we could get a day pass for EUR 100 per person which we declined. At the end of the beach next to the ruins there were some sunbeds for normal affordable prices, but none available. There are many better beaches than this one. The only thing this beach got going is the stunning view.

It used to be the best beach in Kos island, incredibly picturesque with ancient ruins on one side and Kastri island just in front. I was there in 2018 and 2020 and it was marvellous. One could rent sunbeds, parasol and pédalos. In 2021 unfortunately a huge 5-star resort opened. It’s directly in the beach and they have been allowed to privatise 80% of the beach , the best part. It’s a disgrace they they have been allowed to do so. Now Agios Stefanos beach is a tiny overcrowded spot by the ruins (I guess by law those could not be privatised!) and the guy renting sunbeds and parasol said he is going to stop it’s activity as it makes no more sense to pay a licence for such a tiny stretch of beach.

We arrived at the beach at 12 noon to find it incredible overcrowded with no sunbeds available. The IKOS Hotel dominates the beach and whilst it is quite pretty was too busy for us. There is also a lack of amenities, and the parking was tough. We were in for a long walk back down. We opted to leave and head to paradise beach which was busy but quieter and had 2 beach cafes (one cash only), inflatables and water sports available. Parking was also very easy and close to the beach. Given that it is the height of summer holidays the business doesn’t surprise me, but I think there’s nicer quieter beaches close by.

Amazing. My favourite beach in Kos. We are a family of 4 (Wife, 5ry and 13 yr old) so we need a beach that is fun and safe for everyone. This is exactly that one is. Water is calm and for most of the water is not deep at all. If you want more fun, you can swim to the small island in the middle. Take your snorkel goggles and you'll see fishes in halfway through (the deep part). Water is super clear. We rented a water bicycle with slides and my daughter had a lot of fun sliding into the middle of the ocean!

How do you get up to the church on Kastri Island in Kos ? Is there a road? or how many steps? i have mobility problems
Written December 17, 2020
You can hire a pedalo, however there is a large up from the boat, this leads to a concrete, quay, and then uneven paths and poorly constructed steps. My advice, sit on the beach and admire from a distance!

Non sono a conoscenza di bus che portano direttamente lì, ma so che ci sono fermate di autobus che portano in zona e poi si raggiunge la spiaggia facendo quattro passi a piedi.

Not really, no. Most of the bars are on the main road, I recommend Dolphin Rock Cafe, great atmosphere in there. But you would need to go further down towards the main Kefalos bit to reach bars and tavernas

How far is the walk from the bus stop to the beach?

Bonjour,

Hi, can anyone tell me which bus goes from Kos Town to Agios Stefanos beach? Any other information like how long it takes and where the bus stops, etc, would really be appreciated.
Written April 26, 2016
Not sure of the times of the buses although there are some and not far to walk from the main road. You can drive there its about 40 km so that depends on your mode of transport car bike quad or bus. Well worth the trip we went several times to that beach its worth it but we stayed in Kefalos so we could wzlk from our hotel.
