Good inside, nice gardens, neglected fountains
Sep 2021
A wonderful palace particularly notable for the huge colourful tapestries found here and at San Lorenzo de El Escorial. This was the main feature of the palace, room after room of excellent colourful tapestries, such detailed work. This is followed by room after room of paintings, Alexander the Great seemingly being a favourite topic of the Spanish royalty. With beautiful art and tapestries you do not immediately appreciate the painted ceilings and items of furniture. Quite impressive.
Not so the gardens. Yes, they are beautiful in parts. But the design of the gardens is around water features, cascades, fountains etc. And none work. I didn’t expect them to from reading in advance, it seems they seldom operate. And there lays the failure. For gardens designed for magnificent water features none work. If you want spectacular and proper management of water features learn from Peterhof in St Petersberg, or for smaller beautiful gardens with small fountains at least working the Alcazar in Cordoba.

A guided live-streamed tour
Sep 2021
I did a guided live-streamed tour of the gardens of La Granja Palace with Jesus from Heygo.
He explained that this site was purchased from the monks in 1719 by King Philip V, to build a new palace and gardens modeled on Versailles which was built by his grandfather, Louis XIV of France.
The French designer used the natural slope of the site in the palace grounds design, for enhancing axial visual perspectives. There are many lead sculptural fountains in the formal gardens and landscape park. These fountains are painted to look like bronze and marble. We took many lovely postcard shots of the gardens.

This "Little Versailles" palace is best visited with the audio guide, which provides helpful context and history.

Magnificent!
Jul 2020
The palace is truly stunning! As we went during the pandemic, it was near to empty so we had the luxury of truly walking around comfortably and taking everything in. Staff all have masks, there is hand sanitizer at the entrance and markings on the floor to keep distance when paying to enter. The garden area is so large, I don't know if you'd be able to see it all. It is gorgeous and relaxing. I would strongly recommend this stunning location.

Skip the Palace and go straight to the gardens.

The Palace isn't worth paying for. It's full of things that couldn't fit in a garage. The only reason it's paid entry is to pay for the endless staff glaring at you as you walk through it. And this is on top of security cameras, it's more like an airport.
The gardens are better. Shame they couldn't afford the electricity to turn on the water pumps. Waterless fountains are very ugly. The setting is very pleasant and the air is fresh and fragrant. However, overall it's not worth a few hours trip from Segovia.

Palace of the People

Don’t compare with Royal Palace in Madrid but with own distinct and beautiful history that will tell about its struggle and victory, a phenomenal garden and its surroundings.

Simply stunning
Oct 2019
A superb period building with delightful gardens. We spent our time enjoying a walk in the tranquil gardens. It was a shame the fountains were not operating as this would have been spectacular.

Beautiful - but do the Audio Tour
Oct 2019 • Couples
We arrived early and walked the grounds for a few hours.
We then paid to visit and do an audio tour of the palace.
We did not know that the audio tour included the palace, gardens and chapel.
We would recommend purchasing the palace and audio tour at the start .
The palace and gardens are stunning as many others have reviewed.
Allow at least 3-4 hours.

Quite a Stunning Place
Sep 2019
We came by taxi from Segovia (25 Euro each way.) We started in the gardens, and then went to the house. It seems far more people visit the house than the gardens--it's worth planning time to do both...at least three hours. The electronic guided tour in the house tells the story of the architecture more than the family history, but it was modern and on iPad with additional images, so we thought it was worth it. It's a very romantic location, and quite beautiful, and we're so glad we went.
