The abbey of San Fedele is the largest in Poppi, the exterior is very simple and is located at the end of the town attached to the city walls. The interior recalls the typical Vallombrosian Latin cross buildings and there are three chapels which are highlighted by black and white bands. Under the altar there is the crypt which houses the remains of the Blessed Torello, patron saint of the town.

The patron saint of Poppi is interred here. The church is in an excellent location at the end of the main street in the village offering excellent views outside of the surrounding valley. It has a beautifil decorated window, numerous significant paintings.
There are 3 churches located close to each other in the village, each worth a visit,

We visited here as part of a day's wandering around this beautiful town. This little church was a delight to visit on a quiet drizzly day in Poppi, we had it to ourselves.

This church is located at one end of Poppi and forms part of the town's walls. Originally Romanesque in style, it was built in the latter half of the 12th century, but like many other churches of a similar vintage, saw renovations and reconstructions over the intervening centuries that introduced Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance features. A further restoration in the 1930's largely restored its Romanesque features.

The exterior of tan stone is largely unadorned except for some small thin single lancet windows. The facade also has a small oculus above the portal however the main entrance is through a portal on the right hand side of the church that was built in 1574. The bell tower stands beside the church and appears to have been partially built from stones that previously formed art of the town's defensive walls. The bell tower was built in 1580.

The interior is a single nave with a Latin cross design, wooden trussed roof and arches leading to each of the presbytery and the transepts. There are a number of lovely paintings adorning the interior walls and altars. The simple main altar dates from the late 13th century and is adorned with a large painted wooden cross of the crucifixion dating from the second half of the 14th century.

Interestingly, in a side niche, there is a reliquary bust of the blessed Torello da Poppi made of a gilded copper bust with a silver head.

This little chapel is attached to the Monastery Abbey of San Fedele. There is a closed off inner section where the monks come to pray but the public can visit and attend Mass in the outer section. This church was on the road up to our villa (Villa Padrone) and, as Catholics, we found it convenient to attend Sunday Mass here. There is also a small cemetery nearby.

We loved our visit here. It was not our destination as we just came across it in the old town. It is an 11th century abbey and downstairs it contains the actual remains of the saint and other pious leaders. There are some lovely works of art and the abbey is in beautiful condition and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Such a wonderfully quiet and peaceful place. With no other visitors it is possible simply to sit and enjoy the calming, quiet background music.

The Vallombrosan church was cause for widespread superstition. In fact all the city and perhaps the entire valley knows that part of the church and the monastery and cloister hearsay women can not linger for the night. Supervening ghosts with vallombrosian cassocks to disturb the woman who dares to spend the night under strictly relevant to the friars Order.
Many testimonies of people still living like former Librarian of Poppi author of a temporary exhibition in the late '80s and many more to medium high culture people.
Even in December 1994 there was another phenomenon in which there was a rush of people to see the bells move dramatically but without sounding as the clapper remained motionless; said it was the Spirit of Tommaso Crudeli he did it to show the happiness of the just ended conference where the speaker was the most highly renowned Roberto Gervaso in the birthday anniversary of the poet tortured for heresy.
