The highlight of this ancient hilltop town is this remarkable castle. We spent about an hour and a half exploring the three levels and all the exhibits. It's wonderfully preserved and a great place to learn the history of the area. It is highly recommend.

Fascinating castle with small village settlement around. Access to the village by car is "interesting" with very necessary one-way streets. If you ignore parking until you get inside the castle walls it becomes much easier! Eclectic mix of early static electricity machines, obstetric models and...More

I went here with friends and teenage son when we had to get out of the heat of Florence and into the hills of Tuscany. Beautiful castle with fantastic 360 views from the bell tower. Authentic displays, a weird stretch in the science room where...More

What a great place! We visited the castle with our 4 year old during hot summer day. Keeping our son entertained has been a struggle during our trip to Italy this time... but he absolutely loved this place. We’ve spent over 2 hours at the...More

There is currently an exhibition in conjunction with the Uffizzi of Florence. The mystery of the lost painting by Leonardo di Vinci of the Battle of Anghiari. Many different theories abound. The history of Count Guidi makes this castle always interesting to visit at any...More

Italian castles (castellos) seem to have their own style among all the European fortress like buildings. Poppi Castle is archetypal for many in Tuscany. We stopped at a few others on the SR70 drive from Firenze, and they all are stylistically similar. But Poppi Castle/Conti...More

We drove through a beautiful and less-frequented part of the Tuscan countryside, so the drive itself to Poppi was good. Coming from the Firenze direction, the view of Poppi, dominated by the castle, from the famous battle site of Campaldino is worth driving a couple...More

Much has been written about this castle, which I recently visited for the third time. I would particularly like to draw attention to the valuable model of the Campaldino battle, held under a glass case to protect it from dust, and housed in one of...More

This town is so quaint! It is a must see if you are in the area. The castle is well preserved and interesting to walk through. We spent about an hour here then had a lovely lunch at the cafe across the street.
