Worth your time

This place is beautiful gorge with has an ancient temple with several halls that were dug into the cliff. In summer, many families took their kids to play and picnic at the sand beach at the riverbank at bottom of the gorge. 30 RMB. for entrance fee.

Great history and pleasant walking
Dec 2017 • Friends
You don't know what to expect until you get there and walk through the gate tower. This place is really lovely and makes for a great afternoon stroll even on very cold days, as it gets the afternoon sun. The history behind the carvings is very interesting, though you probably need someone local to tell you all about them. Carvings and paintings are mostly gone after the cultural revolution madness, and the statues are replicas, but it still give you an impression of the effort and meaning of the place.

Beautiful and fascinating canyon carvings
Jan 2013 • Friends
I very much enjoyed these. The carvings are beautiful and really caught my imagination. There are dozens of small caves and 100s of images, statues and words hewn into the rock face on both sides of the gorge.

I was also fascinated by the old aqueduct that now serves as a bridges and canal that runs across it and along the far-side of the canyon.

There were only about 4 other people there when we went on a chilly day in January.

Nice little spot

Genuinely different and peaceful, a nice spot to spend a couple of hours, and very close to zhenbeitai.
