About Ikarianature
You are welcome to join us and live the experience of capturing the therapeutic power of Ikarian nature, by distilling the essential oils of the indigenous herbs. We offer an experience of around 4 hours during which will collect and distill the herb of the season. We will start by visiting a location where the herb is abundant. We will spend some time identifying the herbs and discussing their properties. You will learn to gather the herbs by hand, selecting only what is necessary, ensuring sustainability and quality. We will then return to the laboratory and start the process of distillation. You will help to load the distiller and start the distillation, learning the secrets involved in capturing high quality essential oils. While the distillation is in progress, you can sample our range of oils and hydrosols, drink some tea made from local herbs and learn about their uses. Our season starts end of March and ends beginning of September.

We came to Ikaria out of season and were so lucky to cach one of the last possibilities of the essential oils workshop. We spent a wonderful, calm and relaxed time with unhurried discussions and Theo's short introduction into indigenous aromatic herbs of Ikaria and the process of essencial oils distillation. Then all togeter we went to pick the herb of the season. I felt like in my childhood, when my granny was taking me with her to pick herbs. Patiently we picked our plant and went to Theo's place, where Tara with little Irice welcomed us with Ikarian herbal tea and natural honey. Delicious! Theo introduced us his distillation tools and described the whole process with small important details. Also we had a possibility to try essential oils and hydrosols from Ikarian Nature. We spent an amazing time with Theo, Tara and little Iris, joyful, relaxed at one hand and inspiring and expanding our knowledge in natural healing. Thank you, dear Ikarian Nature family. You are in our hearts and we hope to see you soon.

Theo and Tara were incredible hosts. They welcomed us to their home and treated us like family. We went with our two sons (ages-4 & 13), and my father (Ikarian). All five of us learned alot and enjoyed this educational experience. Theo was very knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. We processed eucalyptus and made essential oils and hydrosol sprays. Tara offered us delicious homemade hummus and drinks. She also showed us her outdoor massage oasis. We look forward to participating in future ikarianature workshops as a family and with friends. We also purchased several of their high quality products and plan to order more.

This is one of the most unique activities I've ever had the opportunity to do while traveling. Theo, Tara, and Iris welcomed us to thier home where we were educated on the local herbs, thier unique medicinal qualities, tips and tricks on harvesting, the distillation process and more. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted when Theo handed us each a scythe and sent us to a spot down the road to assist him with gathering fennel for a new experiment he wanted to conduct. I found it really wonderful and eye opening to be a part of the physical process of gathering the materials needed to make an essential oil. We carefully packed our harvest into a distiller (but not too tightly!) and within a few minutes were able to see the magic come to life as the plant transformed into a golden bubbly liquid which we all admired in awe through Theo's meticulously crafted chemistry set. This was a process I admittedly knew nothing about until Theo so graciously provided a window into his world. I am so appreciative to Theo and family for taking the time to share this special and amazing knowledge with us.

I am a regular visitor to Ikaria and appreciate its wild beauty and always looking for learning more. This October, with a dozen of like minded adventures, we spent a sunny morning with Thodoris, sickles in hand, gathering wild fennel, looking for wild flora, tramping a meadow. Thodiis , delivered the best hands on lesson in the process of distilling essential oils, the ecology of gathering wild sources, the healing arts of essential oils and inadvertently, inspiring all of us to evaluate " Do we really want to live our lives in the rat race in cities " and what does it take to carve out a new life, start a small business of great value and bring your small family along for the ride. Even better, I came home with a tiny bit of Ikaria for all my friends in the form of Wild Oregano and Wild Lavender in essential oils and the flavor of what life can be like in Ikaria. What a perfect way to send a a morning outdoors, learning, smelling, gathering, talking all that Theo and Tara and their daughter have to offer.

I can still smell the delicious fragrance of lavender even though it's been months since the extraordinary day spent at Theo and Tara's herb farm. Theo showed us the way to collect lavender out in his fields, after which we brought the aromatic filled sacks back to his distillery. We watched and took part in this amazing process of turning herbs into oil. Theo educated us on all of the aspects of this process with such loving respect for the land and and life of plants while Tara served us home cooked food and wine...we then were introduced to all the various oils that he makes and their uses, which are many. This experience was unique and so beautiful...anyone visiting Ikaria should have this on the top of their to do list! Thank you Theo and Tara!
