Don't visit Grand Cayman without this experience! There are very few bioluminescent bays in the world, so the chance to take a peaceful kayak excursion to experience it first-hand is so amazing! A friend and I did the 9:15pm kayak tour and thoroughly loved it.

First of all, this company only does the tours approximately 9 days before and 9 days after the new moon, so if the full moon is occurring during your trip to GC, chances are these tours won't be available. Check the calendar and consider that when planning your visit to the island.

Secondly, check out their social media for promotions. I took advantage of an Instagram deal where you could get 20% off the trip by tagging a friend on their IG post. Easy peasy (but some restrictions apply)!

Kids are welcome on this trip, especially on the electric catamaran, but be prepared for the late-night experience. I saw some very tired kids after the 9:15pm trip. I'm sure many of them had a 60-90 minute trip back to Seven Mile Beach afterwards.

If you're staying on the west side of the island, be prepared for a lengthy trip to Rum Point to do this. There are shuttles available, but you need to check out the travel times between your resort and Rum Point. It's not a quick jaunt to get there.

Camilla was our guide and she did a great job not just explaining the science of the bioluminescent organisms but she also presented the constellations in the sky, and the Cassiopeia jellyfish that resides in the bay.

Photography is difficult at best. I personally chose to leave my cell phone in my vehicle, and night photography will be a challenge in the low light conditions. Feel free to Google for some quality photos. I have none to share.

The mangrove kayak was beautiful and serene. Tom did a great job with adding interesting facts about the local wildlife. Our weather was a bit questionable and we kayaked through the rain but that did not dampen the fun. Unfortunately we missed out on our bioluminescent kayak due to weather.

Going out kayaking and seeing the bioluminescence was such a wonderful evening that I would do again and again. Tom, our host and guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the environment, it really made the night. I would highly recommend anyone to do this when on the island. A truly magical evening I will remember forever. (And full disclaimer: I dropped my phone in the ocean... at night... was VERY DISTRAUGHT about it but Tom was so patient and we searched for at least 30 minutes scouring the ocean floor full of sea grass for it. Tom called for backup and flashlights and never got frustrated with my dumb mistake... and then like an angel sent from GOD he found it on the ocean floor and grabbed it with his foot! I cried tears of joy and relief) So again, would highly recommend doing this tour with Tom for so many reasons. But make sure you have your phone in a waterproof case securely attached to your body the whole time.

We appreciated the fact that Lisha told us that the level of bioluminescent organisms in the bay were low due to a storm a few months back before we booked the tour. She said they offer some other highlights including stargazing and interactions with jellyfish and other sea creatures we should encounter. I could tell they were a quality tour company due to their transparency so we decided to go ahead and book it. We were not disappointed! My children were mesmerized with Tom’s knowledge and story telling about the constellations and how he scheduled that perfect shooting star, I don’t know!!! The night time kayaking was exciting enough, but we were fortunate to see many pockets of the bioluminescent plankton. We learned about jellyfish and sea slugs and got to handle them. Tom also shared with us the history of the area and his efforts to preserve the magical wildlife in the bay. Overall, we were very impressed, enjoyed every minute, and was glad that we had made the drive from Seven Mike Beach!

What an amazing experience with awesome tour guilds. Most of us has experiences a Bioluminescent Tour elsewhere. But Tom and Joe were great tour guides. We had a group of 17(included at 1yr) We reserved the electric boat along with the Kayak's. Tom was our guide on the electric boat that had my in-laws, the baby and my husband. It was very comfortable and relaxing. Tom would stop the boat periodically and teach u a little about the consolations, and some Cayman Island history. Once we got into the bay, we got to experience the Bioluminescent with a paddle, hands and our feet. The electric boat was made with a bottom that can be opened so that you can put your feet into the water. It was so awesome! He also stopped to show us some jelly fish and taught us a little about them.

Joe lead the Kayak crew. He was also very informative and made the tour enjoyable for the kayakers.

I would highly recommend experiencing this tour if you were to visit the island. 10 Stars if I could!

We have been visiting Grand Cayman for 40 years and had no idea this bay was a bioluminescent bay ( and one of only six in the world!) Tom was our guide and it was a fantastic experience, definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I cannot imagine having the same experience in a motorized boat. We paddled out under a sky brilliant with stars. Tom periodically stopped to show point out the constellations in the sky. It was one of the few times, in years, where I have been able to see the Milky Way…beautiful. Cayman Kayaks only offers this trip when the moon is in the perfect phase to enhance your experience. If you are fortunate enough to be on the island at this time, you should definitively do this! If you are staying in the Seven Mile Beach area, it is worth driving around the island for this company over the motorized boat experience. I would suggest that you take this opportunity to explore the East End and North Side of the island which is quite different from Seven Mile Beach. Explore the caves, have lunch at Vivines, The Caboose, Grape Tree Hut or Back Yard BBQ, spend the afternoon at Kaibo, have dinner at Over The Edge and then join Cayman Kayak for the bioluminescence tour. You will have a totally different experience than your friends in Georgetown!

If I had one suggestion for Cayman Kayaks, it would be to replace your paddles with ones that do not hold water in the shaft. The shafts hold the water and then leak out on you as you paddle….making for a wetter experience than necessary.

Our tour guides were really nice. They are very eco-friendly and conscientious with the bay, very respectful of the residents in the area. They had lights on the kayak to make sure they can keep track of everyone. We were provided vests for safety. Our 7 yr old sat between me and my husband and since she didn't have a paddle and isn't able to reach the water, David gave her a long floatie stick to reach the water with. She was really excited about the "upside down jellyfish" and started telling the other kids about it the next day.
We came at the perfect time which was exactly a new moon on the calendar nov. 23rd, clear skies and bright stars. It was a perfect time and beautiful experience with the bioluminescence. My husband said it's like the movie Avatar. Magical indeed.
We would have been able to do it ourselves since our condo rental was within the bay plus we were provided kayaks but we wouldn' be able to feel safe kayaking and learn all those interesting details about the bay if we didn't go to with the tour.

We did the last late night kayak trip of the lunar cycle with Tom in early July. We had eight in the group and Tom was an excellent guide. He got our sense of humor, was extremely patient with our groups varying levels of kayak experience, was knowledgeable, personable and friendly. The bioluminescent bay was magical, followed by a bonus of astronomy with the best laser I’ve ever seen in my life. This was my second bioluminescent kayak experience, first in Grand Cayman, and it was far superior to what I experienced before thanks to Tom.

The bioluminescence tour was high on our list as it is only one of several in the world. We chose this company for three reasons.....it was recommended by the owner of the condo we rented, it is eco-friendly and prohibits activities that hurt the plankton, and it had an electric boat option. We liked the boat as we got there quickly and without much effort. Kayaking at night and trying to keep up with a group did not excite us. On the way there, our guide Dave did a great job of pointing out constellations with his laser pointer. The bay was phenomenal. It is located by private houses, and the electric boat had dark side panels which blocked a lot of light from the shore. The bioluminescence was fascinating. The boat bottom came off in places and we were able to interact in many ways. After that, we went to another part of the bay and looked at jelly fish. Dave actually caught several and educated us on this special kind of jelly fish. Not only educational, but fun and entertaining. I would highly recommend. Great for smaller kids too if too young to kayak.

I guess I'll join the crowd and give them 5 stars. We took our 23, 20 and 19 year olds on the night time excursion. Our family loves educational, unique trips and this one fit the bill. The leaders were full of knowledge not only about the bay, but we did some star gazing as well. The small group environment led to a great learning experience. The leaders were really intelligent, and we came away with new found scientific knowledge. Well worth it!
