Hard to believe Masada was a stronghold of a king and led to an important siege as it is far from major cities. Still. worth a guided visit which includes clip from the O'Toole movie. Not to strenuous a walk when on plateau. Just the trip there is exciting.

The experience at Masada was fantastic and I really wish I had planned more time to stay. Although I am aware of the history of it, when you can actually touch and see everything it adds something to the experience. Definitely bring a hat and sun screen because it is HOT up there. They do have water fountains and washroom... More

See the unbelievable mountain fortress winter getaway of King Herod, The Great and fast forward 70 years to hear the story of the Jewish rebels that refused to give in to Roman forces. The site was originally selected by King Herod for its isolated location in the desert as a solo mountaintop. The fortress stood as a winter getaway for... More

Even if you take the easy option and use the cable car, you will need to walk around the vast archeological site in the seering heat, but iof you have any affinity with the Massada story, it's worthwhile.

If you visit Israel this is an all day trip. You will need a hat and plenty of water. The journey is well worth it for the history lesson, the views and the excellent guides. I picked up the bus in Jerusalem and travelled to Masada then on to the Dead Sea for a dip in the water. From Jerusalem the... More

It is an historical site with a dramatic story about a rebellion against the Romans, a Roman victory achieved by patience and engineering and a tragic ending of the rebels. The site is well preserved and well maintained so it's pretty easy to visit either by one of the plenty guided tours or even on your own (international explanations are... More

What a great place to visit. From Masada, you get an absolutely beautiful view of the area, but also a great history lesson. Audio guides are available, and they are definitely worth purchasing. As you follow this along, different audio clips explains the different rooms, as well as thr events that took place here. Bring water bottles, because it gets... More

I love Masada, the sense of history and the unbelievable views make this a brilliant day out. There are underground parking spaces for your car, cable cars transporting you to the top of Masada, a small museum and cinema with the history of Masada. There are also lots of souvenir shops and canteen style food, quite pricey for very standard... More
