Amazing place on the high mountain, the Palace of Herodes. The story of the place is facinating. Must see in Israel.

Step into this ancient land drives me back to 2 thousands years ago. When I know the story, I respect and feel connected with the place more. This is the special place with special hidden secret. Sports shoes, water and dates are recommended!

Our visit here began with a sound and light show which was held in an amphitheatre but is only shown on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I really can't do justice to this breathtaking place in just a few lines but take my word for you, this is a place you must visit. Graham and I walked up the Rampart Path which... More

When you get up at 2am to be picked up by a hippie driving a minibus in 160 km/h in total darkness you are not sure if you are awake or having a nightmare. But please do it! Once dropped off at the bottom of the mountain, still in darkness we started walking. Then came the steps and we started... More

The scale and height of this ruin is unbelievable, and to think it was built by hand and withstood the Roman onslaught for so long is beyond belief .Looking down at the remaining foundations of the Roman encampments surrounding the hill is incredible . Take a trip out to this time capsule and wander through the remaining structures. PJ Barker... More

The place has a very special place in the history of the region. It is impossible to overstate its significance. Frankly i wish we had a better tour guide up there because i felt that we were provided with very limited amount of info. Anyway.. The view from the fortress is amazing! And there seem to be a lot of... More

Get there when it opens at 8AM and avoid the crowds that start arriving about 10.30. Unless you feel that it’s some sort of mission on your bucket list, why walk up the Snake Path? Save your energy and enjoy walking around the ruins on top. Well worth 2-3 hours.

The site is extremely isolated, perched in the middle of barren desert, and gives you a glimpse into the loneliness and solitude of its original inhabitants (though their end was anything but peaceful, and their lives must have been challenging on such a tough site). I highly recommend seeing it with a guide unless you are well-versed in the history... More

I couldn't think of visiting Israel without including a visit to Masada. It is the story that attracted me, but the site itself is sensational. Herod's palace and fortifications sit on top of what appears to be an unassailable table mountain. You can walk or take the cable car ; once on top the views are breath taking. There are... More

I was so impressed with the view as we went up the cable car and then from the top, it was amazing, you then imagine the history of some Jews being trapped and being over taken by the ruling Romans building a ramp up the side of the mountain. The Jews decided it would be better for them to die... More
