This is a very very unique tour. Taking in the wonderful views from the tractor, leading you to a place you could not go yourself, climbing up the black sand, to meet up with birds and puffins, is an experience you will remember. You need to walk upp a bit in the sand, but the guide is giving you enough time to do so and telling you informative stories about the settlers in acient times. Of course the trip depends a bit on the weather, but the views are there and so are the puffins most of the time.

I cannot say enough good things about Einar and his company From Coast to Mountains. Even before I booked with his company, he was kind enough to offer photography tips over numerous emails back and forth. And once I booked with him, he went out of his way to coordinate with other travellers also looking to share the cost of the helicopter. The trip itself was more than I could have imagined. We toured at least 7 ice caves, though likely more, as I truly lost count! And we had the caves all to ourselves…4 passengers and Einar as our guide. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and attention to safety made this trip even more enjoyable! He is truly a local legend, but with a humble attitude and generous spirit! One of main purposes of my trip to Iceland was to see the ice caves, and I toured several other caves with different companies during my time there. None of my other experiences came close to this trip! The other caves were crowded and you were ushered through them too quickly to use a tripod. So take it from me, even if you are not a professional photographer, if you are hoping to take longer exposure shots with a tripod, don’t consider any other trip. Go with From Coast to Mountains...you'll be glad you did!

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words firebug2002. It will be a challenge to live up to all those wonderful things you say about me and my company :-) I sure hope the Blue Dragon ice caves where we went with the Helicopter Ice Cave Tour this winter will prove as great next year. The ice caves there this winter were exceptional, in the good conditions even 400 meter long and so many of them. But you are right about the other ice caves being crowded, but I have to say that even those that would travel with me to the other ice caves would probably experience the same you experienced with the other companies, it is getting very crowded everywhere. (Except I did only offer one departure a day so I was never in such rush this winter like those that offer several departure a day). For the ice caves that are easy to approach I was only offer adventure tours this winter, not really recommended for photographers, and I will probably do the same next winter. I like to keep photographers happy, but the only trip I could offer this winter that really could do that was the Helicopter Ice Cave Tour.

My husband, 24 year old adult son, and I had the unique opportunity to Book a Helicopter Cave Tour with Einar. Einar is quite responsive in giving out information via emails prior to arriving in Iceland. Weather changes in Iceland can be very challenging, but Einar masterfully worked with us, our itinerary, and assured us he would work it out with the best of his professional ability. Our son is a landscape photographer, and desired to capture unique cave shots without the 'rush' of others....so setting up a tripod, etc. takes time...and Einar delivered!!!!! Alex was able to capture landscape images, and we can't wait to have them displayed! Our 4 hours with Einar and his son, made my heart soar with thanksgiving! Iceland in the winter is unique, and this Helicopter Tour gave us unique and a one of kind personal attention from a gentleman who is highly respected with integrity, has a daily life that shows contentement, and humility. Einar is the a man that everyone should get to know.....he and his entire family! Our helicopter pilot provided 'safety' lessons, and Einar made sure we were safe in our walking to and inside the caves. He worked with Alex to find interesting places, and then discussed with us information about he Glaciers and Ice Caves. Einar is remarkable, and it was a privilege being in his care.

This tour actually exceeded the hype - we saw puffins in droves, some flying with fish in their mouths, some staring into our camera lenses. Fulmars wheeled around us and Great Skuas eyed us from their nearby perches. The tractor ride was relaxing to the point of beign serene, across mirror surface black sand beaches and towards the small island where we hiked. The view from the cliffs was unparalleled, looking into the private bay where a gannet was nesting was an extra bonus. Shout out to Palle our guide who was enthusiatic and helpful and brought an extra sense of wonder to our experience.
