and so much else to do and see! Heurigen, great restaurants, culture at every corner. We took this time a hiking trip at the Welterbesteig, an easy trail from Krems to Dürnstein of approx. 12,5 km. Walking basically along the Danube through the wine yards...an amazing experience!

We went at the beginning of March, and had the good luck of having excellent weather during the day trip. Although this time of the year the vegetation is not so green or abundant, the views are still beautiful. For wine aficionados it's an opportunity to taste several good white wines typical of the region.

There are several options to tour the UNESCO Wachau Valley between Melk and Krems-by Danube River cruises; by bike during suitable weather; by bus and train routes along the Danube. When I visited Melk last Oct.; I decided to take a day trip from Melk to Krems on the DDSG passenger sightseeing cruise. It was the last seasonal daily runs... More

The wine region along the Danube is amongst the most exciting scenery of the entire trip between Passau and Vienna ; The blue church at Durnstein is simply an amazing landmark and forms just another memorable sight as you pedal through this magnificent area.

The scenic cruising is about 18 miles long. It takes about 1.5 hours. Witnessing terraced vineyards, forested slopes, charming towns, and castle ruins. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What a journey!!
