We parked up and went to enquire in the visitor centre if it would be best to do the Wilkie Pools or Dawson falls walk first. Once the guy had looked up from the book he was reading he said do the Wilkies Pools walk first as you need to drive to the falls walk on your way down from... More

Even on a rainy day these falls were fun to visit. It's about a 15 min walk from the parking lot at the end of the road. There's a platform to watch the falls from or you can walk down as well. Nice forest walk as well!

Access from visitor centre begins on the road which is a pity although there are other approaches from different trails. Steps down to falls are a bit uneven towards the bottom. View from viewpoint partly obscured by vegetation. Falls themselves and the pool below them are attractive.

we visited these falls on a very wet and rainy day. It was very wet underfoot as we took the steps but the view from the viewing platform was spectacular

We started our walk up by the 5 min. trail to the power plant. The trail was uneven, steep in places, with lots of steps and tree roots. After about a 30 minute hike, we came to a sign that said the road was a mere 500 m. up another path. So be careful which path you choose--the longer one... More

The walk from Dawson Falls car park to Stratford Plateau and back is a brilliant half-day walk. Wonderful vegetation.

The hike to this waterfall wasn't overly strenuous, although there were some steep steps to get down to it. The payoff was worth it - there had been a lot of rain prior to our arrival, so the waterfall was really flowing. Even though it isn't too far from a road, you really got the feeling that you were far... More

A 5 min walk back down the road from the Dawson Falls i-site (which closes at 4pm) to the start of the bush walk. A 20 min return walk from start of bush. Easy walk to the upper viewing point but a bit steep down to the base of the falls and slippery in places if wet. You can get... More

I came with my three children (15,13, and 10). It is a must see at Mt. Taranaki. Took us ten minutes to get down to the base of the waterfall. Well marked path with lots of steps. Light to moderate fitness. Park at the visitor center and it's a short walk to the beginning of the trail. Spectacular views at... More

This natural water falls are very beautiful. Be prepared to walk a few kms to reach there. It's definitely worth the little physical effort. There are signs posted along the way indicating the distance and time required to reach the falls. Returning back might be a little tiring for older people, suggest to carry enough liquids and wear proper shoes... More
