Idanre Hill is a beautiful hill with 682 steps from the ground. It’s not an easy climb, but it’s totally worth the Journey.
There are about 5 huts on the way up the hill.
But only the first is properly set up and has a bar with music blaring.
After the steps, you basically maneuver your way to the top. A mostly flat bed.
From the top you can see the entire Idanre town.
The tour guide told me Idanre means ‘It is a Miracle’.
I was breathless by the time I reached the third hut and thereafter, got my groove on. There were kids on an excursion too; that’s a regular sight during holidays. There’s a small settlement on the other side of the hill, no longer inhabited but has a story.
You can go with a bottle of water in hand.
The guides are friendly and the place is very safe. I would go there again and again.

I enjoyed the sight seeing and hill climbing. The taste of the delicacies served at idanre was yummy. I had issues with their services and hotels cos it was kinda poor. Good place to be anyways

Good view and great work of nature. Only God formed those hills. The Area only tells story of the ancient times.

For our visit to Idanre we had slept in akure the night before and made it a day trip . The drive heading up to Idanre already revealed how breathtaking and beautiful the landscape is. There is a tourist center at the base where you purchase your tickets. Tickets were at a 1000 per person and you give whatever you agree with your tourguide as an appreciation for the tour.

With the help of our tour guide Richard we made it up the 682 steps to the peak. When accessing the great steps that lead to the peak you will come across five resting and viewpoints.

On the top you can explore the following the old court at Odeja since 1906, Oshokogbe stone site used for the Apon festival back in the days, Omi Apaara the thunder stream, Igboore primary school from 1896, the tourist charlets from 1954, Omi Arun, Ancient palace and courtyard, Chief Lorin house, Asurin quarters and the wonderful rock.

In total we spent three hours exploring idanre without long breaks so if you wanted long breaks you may need more time

On WHO's tentative list? Definitely worth a visit. A hike that starts with 660 stairs. Catch your breath at the stops with breathtaking views over Idanre on your way up. See more of the town from the location where once was a hostel now empty broken buildings. Then move on in to the ancient town, Oke Idanre. This is Nigerian history and heritage so well preserved, that's its amazing its not better exposed and widely known of, even to the people of the towns around it. The old villages, ruins, but still standing, starting with a school from 1896, show life lived by the idanre people in the hills before they moved down to the present town at the foot of the hills in the 1920's. The area is massive, so not all can be visited in a day, but the main places old palace etc. Unfortunately the ticket office buildings and officials is a farce. They charge a high price for guided walks, try to cheat you of the receipt, so they can pocket the money themselves, and the guide still asks for tips when you come down and is dissatisfied with the OK large tip, knowing he doesn't get any of what is collected in the office. office areas falling apart, officials just sleeping around on benches. tried to write on carbon paper with a cardboard inserted so not real copy. A disgrace. Fine that tourists should pay more, but locals ang youngster from Nigeria should pay less, to promote knowledge of the area, and pride in one's heritage. Make school excursions from schools from the state - should be compulsory.

I was here at the tail-end of 2017 with 2 rugged Russians obsessed with adventures. They were thrilled by the sights at the top of the hill. Not a place for feeble hearted. Although easy to climb but quite tedious. Very safe and interesting stories.

Worthwhile visit. You certainly need a tour guide. A lot of history at the top of the hill. Climbing shoes preferred.
