To be fair, I sought this place out because my grandfather's grandfather (5 generations back) was one of the managers on this estate, which belonged to the Tyszkiewicz (tisKEVitch) family, one of the wealthiest in Lithuania in the 19th Century. Although it has a turret, it was built as an elegant mansion and intended as a museum (books, art, tapestry) by its owners. Burned and rebuilt, destroyed and reconstructed, the modern structure preserves the feel of the original. The curator/guide told us about the five generations of owners (they had 99 mansions in Lithuania, but this is the best one), and took us throughout the building including the wine cellar and the turret. In its time, it had a grand stable, the first telephone in Lithuania and the first automobile. It had a grand Orangerie (now a restaurant) and elegant grounds. One of the owners was a skilled photographer, whose works support the story of the place and document authenticity. [Note: my ancestor died in 1892. Not in the photo of managers.]

Raudondvaris Castle (Lithuanian: Raudondvario pilis, literally "Red Manor"), also referred to as Raudondvaris Manor was first mentioned as a pagan keep by Teutonic chroniclers in 1392.
We were not too sure what to expect when went to visit Raudondvaris. We were pleasantly surprised when we went.
The Manor is beautifully restored. Surrounded by a beautiful and serene park.
Manor is a history museum dedicated to Tyszkiewicz’s family who were owners of the manor for more than 90 years. The manor was known to house that family's extensive art collection including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Rubens, Caravaggio and Jan Matejko. Unfortunately during war paintings went missing (stolen?).
If you go, please book a tour guide to show you around. Tour guide only costs 9 Euros on top of your entrance fee. They will not only tell you all interesting facts about the manor and families who lived there, but also will show all the nooks and crannies that you wouldn’t think of looking into.
All staff is very friendly and helpful, don’t hesitate to ask them for information not only about Raudondvaris, but other places to visit as well.

Lovely big park - even in October it was truly beautiful! We spent there 2 days in an expo and enjoyed the place.

A very well kept manor also very popular with brides. Lovely restaurant on the grounds. We were lucky enough to be there when there was an opera being held. Great afternoon out.

Totally in love with this place. The Architecture, the nature, art, food and history all in one. This place is very popular with wedding parties and we spotted 5 brides, kind of added to the romance of the place.
Will come again, this time with my professional camera.

I was visiting a friend in Kaunas and she was driving me around the area. She brought me here just to walk about for a bit on our way back to Kaunas from outside the city. It was a beautiful place with well maintained lawns and buildings. There were several different buildings in the premises. I don't remember what each of them were called but all were really pretty. There was a private event going on in the white building where the restaurant is so the atmosphere was quite festive. Simply a gorgeous place to relax and for photos.
