I visited Ziogas Western city with my partner and we had an amazing time. It was the highlight of our summer. We both love horses and the equine lifestyle in general. We were amazed by the great condition the horses were kept and how friendly and helpful the staff was.
We will be visiting again soon!

I was browsing through tripadvisor for a different reason when I came across this gem.

This is 100% must go-do-see-play-pet-expore-enjoy for any person who likes being outdoors.
The owners have turned their farm into a far-west kind of scenery. And they have done one helluva job!

Picture this:
-you arrive late in the evening, when everything is quite, the farm is sleeping and you meet the owners in the Saloon. All of them are friendly and warm. The farm owner, Ziogas, is the person you want to talk to. This guy may seem wise to many, nuts to some, but a joy to all the visitors. He will also teach you the basics of horse riding, if you are a rookie. Tip:Enjoy a beer with him.
-then you go napnap in one of their "bungalows". I think accommodation is around 10 euro /night/person. Each has a theme: goldigger's house, sheriff's tower and so on. Tip:Bring your own bedsheets! This is a farm, not Hilton.
Tip#2: Couples should pick the Roadhouse ;)
-you wake up to enjoy breakfast from the landlady's hand. Yummy.
-afterwards, you take care of the horses, taking them out, scrubbing their fur, saddling them up etc.
-the experienced riders (Ziogas and his two sons) will take you to places based on your abilities. There are easy & tough rides, long & short, for any tastes. Tip: I had never ridden a horse before, yet I was able to gallop with them in just 30 minutes of riding - so dream high rookies!
-take a second ride, since you loved the first one!
-take care of your horse by unsaddling it, cleaning it, putting it back to the stable.
-there are lots of activities in the farm (many kinds of pets to see, paintball, etc) never tried them, however
-finish your day with a cold Desperados in the Saloon. Yeeehaw!

Recommend this experience for a day or two at starters. Until you get addicted, that is :)
Cannot wait to visit again, after a looong year in the UK

Here are so many reasons as to why this stables is 5 stars.

First and foremost, the horses are in beautiful condition and live in a secluded area in a Western Style village away from traffic and pollution. They are fantastically trained and any experienced rider can instantly tell these horses listen very well. Of course, they do have personalities of their own and will take their chance to nibble grasses like any horse would - they are full of charm and very well behaved.
This is also a 5-star package when it comes to value for money. The time listed are hours spent in the saddle, not necessarily the whole trip - we had breaks during the trail , transport to and from the stables. So I actually found I spent a lot more of my day at the stables than 3 hours stated for the advanced tour! You also get to use the equipment (hat etc) with no extra charge, making it brilliant value for money (I have researched riding in many other countries and the price is very reasonable .
For reference, I took the advanced 3 hour tour. It was fabulous - we rode through paddy fields, a local village, forest, and alongside a river. The horses know the route and buzz words (trot, canter etc.) and just get on with it, leaving you to sit back and enjoy the ride. I didn't have to give a lot of instruction and found clicking my tongue was enough to keep them going for longer stretches cantering.
Ziogas guides are very helpful, kind and professional, they make you feel part of their ranch family. After the trail we have spent time all together at the Saloon for cold beers and burgers. Mrs Fotini, the hostess is great, she keeps the place in order. Menu is simple but tasty in country style and great value for money.
I hope this review was helpful. I can certainly say this trek was the highlight of my trip in Greece and is a must-do for horsey people and beginners alike.

THEME PARKS are rare in Greece, and this one was obviously created with love. It's great for a 'different day out'. Four other families with youngsters were there when we were.
LOCATION. Their website has good directions - but note that we missed the turn-off on the main Serres highway because the blue-coloured road sign that reads: Dorkada, Karterai, Leukohori is not the 'official highway' sign, and we spotted it too late - we had to take the next exit and double back). The last bit of unpaved road is a bit rough, but manageable.
STAFF. Owner Fotini and son Christos were extremely friendly and vigilant. Christos saddled a horse for our four-and-a-half year old granddaughter, then patiently waited for us to finish our beverages before taking her for a ride. She was the only one at that moment, so she got a private jaunt.
PRICES. A big perk is that you don't pay an entrance fee (bravo to the Ziogas family!) - you just pay for your drink/snack (only 2 euros for a double Greek coffee) or activity (a reasonable ten euro for a medium-length [25-minute] horseback ride).
HORSE-BACK RIDING. Cowboy Christos was very conscientious. A crash helmet was provided for our granddaughter, then Christos walked her horse up the mountain trail - constantly checking that she was fine (e.g. not spoofed by the horse). Granddad walked along behind them; a walking stick would probably have come in handy.
OTHER ANIMALS. Our tot enjoyed feeding the enthusiastic farm animals. Do remember to bring along a bag of sliced bread for feeding (we remembered at the last minute!).
ATTIRE. Surprisingly there were no flies, but do wear trousers (just in case) and good sports shoes. Although the summer heat was bearable, I think our visit would have been even more comfortable during the other seasons (but not rainy days). For your tot, I suggest you bring along suntan lotion/bug spray/water/hat/bread for animals. And don't forget your camera!

Went with friends and had 2 kids with us, boy aged 6 and girl aged 3. Easy to get there from Thessaloniki. It is as a western film set with horses, goats, pigs hens etc. You can ride a horse if you want to. T Very friendly people there, especially Mr. Apostolos with the looong beard who really loves horses

What a great day!! Thank you Ziogas&co!

For a unique day out, head to Lefkochori (30min north from Thessaloniki) and get an amazing horse ride through the forest at Ziogas Western City. Or try some of their outdoor games.
Then reward yourself with a cold beer at the bar or a hot chocolate. And don't forget to try the biggest omelette you've ever seen!
The people are all super friendly and you will probably feel like home immediately or at least like a cowboy for a day!

Recommended for all ages and all seasons.

I visited the place with my 10 y daughter in spring and fall in love for ever. After returning home, next day we already booked flight tickets for our 2nd visit. Why did we like it so much: 1) beauty of the place itself (mountains, mini-zoo, architecture, interior designed by the owner himself); 2) horses - calm, intelligent, beautiful, well-trained and trusting; 3) people - the tour and stories told by the owner and the professionalism (also competence in training and guiding kids whos mother tongue in not English) of the guides/trainers can not be put into the words; 4) tailor-made approach to all services offered - depending on your riding skills, the trails shall be recommended to you and a horse suiting to your skills shall be selected + short training is provided (without any additional fee); 5) feeling of being welcome - we were offered 2-ways transfers and accommodation for 1 night. The price for all this + 5 trails in 2 days was very reasonable, definitely not overcharged. Thus, here comes the conclusion - people involved in this family business actually love what they do and as a result, also their horses enjoy their "job". As long as I shall have legs and hands, I shall each year visit the place!
