One of the best one-day outing spots. This is near the Tumkur district. Main attractions to visit - Bhoga Narasimha Swamy Temple, Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple, View Points, Namada Chilume (Deer Park and Historical Place related to Lord Rama), Forest Road, etc… You will see an arch that you have to enter through to reach DD Hills. As you enter the arch, at a little distance, you will see the DD Hills lake on your left. The spot is very beautiful and you can spend some time there. After this, continue on the road till you reach Bhoga Narasimha Swamy Temple which is located at the base of the hill. You need to take the left to reach Bhoga Narasimha Swamy Temple and the right to go to Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple. Park your car near the Bhoga Narasimha Swamy Temple and have the darshan. The gopura looks very beautiful with all the dasavathars carved on the bottom. You will not miss noticing this. After darshan, visit the monolithic rock view of DD hills which is 500 meters from this temple. The view is beautiful and amazing. You can take pictures along with your vehicle itself. From here, either take steps to reach the top of the hill - Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple or proceed in your vehicle to a spot where you have to park the car and then take the 100+ steps to reach the Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple. There are pushcarts selling chat items, cucumbers, fruits, etc., near the car parking space. The steps are moderate climbs and there are places in-between to sit, relax and continue to climb. You will find greenery everywhere with a cool breeze which will make your climb very pleasant. However, beware of the monkeys. The temple has a beautiful step pond and there are plenty of viewpoints here and there that overlook the winding roads and nearby villages. Once done, start to proceed to view Namada Chilume (Deer Park and Historical Place related to Lord Rama). There are two routes to visit this. One is as soon you enter the arch there is an indication to take a road to reach. This was closed when we visited. So we came back down till the arch and from there use your maps to reach Namada Chilume. You will travel through beautiful forest roads before you reach there. There is a beautiful deer park followed by a natural spring in the middle of the rocks where the water comes out continuously. It is believed that this place is associated with Ramayana.

Devarayanadurga is a beautiful hill station near Tumkur. The rocky hills are surrounded by forest and the hilltops are dotted with several temples including the Yoganarasimha and the Bhoganarasimha temples and an altitude of 3940 feet. This place is famous for trekking, wonderful climate and scenery. Overall the rocky hills of Devarayanadurga, encircled by green dense forests, make a visit to this hill station very pleasant indeed. If you love trekking and like to enjoy every moment of it, you are at the right place.

About 70 KMS from Yeswantpur on Tumkur road, Devarayan durga is a charming hillock attraction. It has 2 temples between the base and summit of the hill. Pros & Cons of this attraction:

Pros

- Nice old temple with nice architecture
- well maintained roads while going from Yeswantpur - Kyatsandra- Deverayan Durga
- Good picnic option in nearby deer park
- Bottled water, chips, bajji/bonda and dry Bhel available at temple entrance from street vendors
- Well maintained and very clean, the temple and the route to temple. Almost looks like a plastic free zone. Hopefully all of us maintain it the same way.
- Kids (3-6 Yrs) loved running around the open spaces.

Cons

- No restaurants nearby, either pack food or eat after temple darshan on tumkur road
- The top summit temple ( Yoga Narashima) is a climb of about 100 step steps, old folks may have an issue climbing
- Loads of monkeys in temple, hence do not carry any eatable or they will grab it.

Best option would be to leave by 9:30 AM, Finish temple darshan by 12:30 -1Pm, have packed lunch at deer park and get back home by 4-5 PM.

A quick outing spot, 2 hrs from Bangalore city center. We decided to go here after getting out of NICE road.

Nothing great except for a scenic hill top view and a temple. You would like it if you enjoy a stroll in a park.

Roads are good via Tumkur highway, absolutely no food or restaurants available (not even in Tumkur).

Avoid this place if you have something else planned around Bangalore.

Two Temples are situated on a hill about 16 kms from Tumkur and about 75 kms from Bangalore. One of the temples is located in the lower part of the hill (Bhoga Narasimha); and the other on top of the hill (Yoga Narasimha) with attached Lakshmi temples. The Bhoga Narasimha temple can be reached by car//bus/any mode of transport. To reach the Yoga Narasimha temple, climb the stairs or proceed by vehicle half way up and then proceed `to climb 250 paved steps. There are small tanks next to each temple and water is drawn from the tanks for the abhisheka of God Narasimha. The durga has some fort walls and remnants of the kings abode can also be seen. One can climb till the top where there is a small Nandi. The peak of the hill is the Kumbi to which the able and strong ones can climb.
The atmosphere is very calm and one can spend time peacefully and enjoy the nature as the drive itself is through the forest.
There is anna santarpane(feeding ) for the temple devotees free of cost and one can give donation against a receipt. This will also help the temple authorities to run this programme efficiently,
There is adequate drinking water and toilet facility.

It is an average place to visit except to see couple of temples around. However view of the entire town is breath taking.

Can include nearby deer park and medicinal park along with this trip.

NOTE: Not suggested for elders, as you need to take around 200 steps to see a temple. Also, basic facilities like washroom, restaurants not present. Need to carry them though.

Devarayanadurga is a hill station near Tumkur in the state of Karnataka in India. There are temples of Lord Narasimha one at the foot of the hill and the other on the top of the Devarayanadurga at an altitude of 3940 feet. These are rocky hills surrounded by forest. The natural spring called ‘Namada Chilume’ is a sacred water spring which is said to be the origin of Jayamangali River. Devarayanadurga hill is a picnic spot. You can have a splendid view of the places around and have a wonderful experience to stand there with the wind blowing as if testing your strength to withstand its force. You will see the nature’s bounty in full swing here.
The Karnataka forest department has developed a nursery of medicinal plants which are more than 300 varieties of rare Ayurvedic plants. Each particular species of plants are cultivated on separate specified plots for easy identification of the plant varieties. It looks like a mini forest of medicinal plants.
This place was called by several names but after its capture by the Mysore king Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar it came to be called as ‘Devarayanadurga’ (fort of king Devaraya). The king of Mysore Kanteerava Narasaraja I has constructed the temple of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy in Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is facing the East. It is recorded on the pillars that the enclosure and tower were renovated in 1858 by the king Krishnaraja Wodeyar III.
The Lord Bhoga Narasimhaswami temple is located at the foot of the hill whereas that of Lord Sri Yoga Narasimha swami temple is at the pinnacle of the hill. There is another Lord Narasimha temple by name ‘Kumbi’ at the third elevation which is also facing east. In this temple there are Garbhagriha, Navagrahas and mukhamantapa. It is similar to the temple at the foot of the hill . There are three sacred water tanks (Kalyani) by name Narasimha thirtha, Parasara thirtha and Pada thirtha. The Lord Hanuman (Sanjeevaraya) temple here is said to be an ancient one where He is standing with folded hands. Lord Garuda is a must in all Vishnu related temples so also He stands here obediently to Lord Narasimha.
If you have visited Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu and had gone through the pradakshina of the Lord Arunachala hill on full moon day and experienced the divine thrill, you will have one more thrill here by going round the hill which ritual is called ‘Giri-Pradakshina’ or ‘Parikramana’. Even otherwise it is custom for every devotee who visits a temple to go round about the temple or the garbagudi, as the case may be, as a part of offering prayer to the god therein. So also here in Devarayanadurga the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has made an effort to revive the practice for the benefit of large number of Devotees to perform the Giri-pradakshina (Parikramana).
The annual Car festival is held during Phalguna Masa shuddha poornima day which may occur during March or April. The Ratha (chariot or car) of Sri Bhoga Narasimhaswamy is dragged, by devotees holding the long ropes tied to the Ratha, around the main streets in the town. The devotees from all over Karnataka but particularly from local Tumkur and neighbouring Bangalore gather and take part in the function with devotion to Lord Narasimha.
Among several functions Lord Narasimha Jayanthi is one of the important events which may normally take place on Chaithra Shudha chathurdashi (during May month) on which day thousands of devotees visit the shrine seeking the grace of god.

Devarayanadurga is at a distance of about 65 km from Bangalore by road via Tumkur. There are two railway stations one at Tumkur (11km) and the other Dabbaspet (25km). The nearest Airport is at Bangalore. The Government and private buses operate between Tumkur and Devarayanadurga. Tumkur is well connected to Bangalore via Train and bus services
There is government guest house. KSTDC maintains a hotel in Devarayanadurga by name Hotel Mayura Meghadoota. On the eastern hill traveler’s bungalow and other guest houses are located.
There is a very famous temple of goddess Mahalakshmi at Goravanahalli near this place. You may visit that temple also at a stretch to get the grace of goddess Mahalakshmi, which everybody on earth needs.

Many people who visit here are not aware that they can witness awesome sunset from "Yoga Narsimha Temple" premises located at the peak of the hill. As the sun begins to set behind the far hill, the shadow of hill dramatically moves over the village situate at a cliff below the peak of Devrayana Durga. It is only visible from the view point located at the premises of Yoga Narasimha Temple.

Apart from the sunset it offers lush greenery serine which makes you feel like you have come to a hill station. Google Maps can definitely help you to get into this place. On the way to devrayana durga you can also make a small stop near "namada chilume" where you can find a small deer park.

Thereafter you will find a view point which opens up a great view of a valley located between two hills. Monkeys in this view point are bit violent and should take care while opening doors of car.

From the view point next stop will be a will be a village where a temple of "Bhoga Narasimha" is situated. If you are not a spiritual kind of personality I would recommend to skip this temple and head for uphill towards "yoga narasimha temple".

After reaching the top hill parking lot, you need to climb approximately 100 odd steps to reach Yoga Narasimha temple. The premises of temple is neat and tidy. Even if you are non-spiritual person, you will love the environment. There is a small pond next to temple which serves as good photography spot.

While declining from the temple towards parking lot you can find lots of monkeys. But here, they are not as violent as the monkeys near that Valley View Point. Just wait for the sunset at the view point near the exit of temple.
NOTE: Main temple premises closes by 5.30PM. So, make sure you make before that. Later while descending you can view sunset.

BEWARE: As per many locals its not safe to ride two wheeler post 7PM in the road joining Devrayana Durga to Tumkur/National Highway. Numerous robbery and assault cases has been reported in this stretch. Take extra caution and do not stop your vehicle at any cost.
