The Barskoon Waterfall is not far off the South Shore road, on the road to the Kumtor goldmine. Don't miss the bas relief of a Soviet cosmonaut carved into the face of a boulder across the road from the waterfall. The climb to the lower falls is not too bad. If you climb to the upper falls, there is a path on the left (south) side of the stream that is steep, but manageable. You can climb to the upper falls from the lower on the north side, but some of the climb is exposed and not recommended for anyone without climbing experience.

What a day, fantastic views, great scenery. But this was a difficult climb up the 700m in altitude to the top. We climbed in July and there was still snow at the top. It took us 2.5 hours from the road base. Wear good shoes and go carefully, much of the surfaces are very lose material.
It's worth the views.

Barskoon waterfall was really worth seeing even though it is located quite far. From the main road it would take you about 1 hour by car, and maybe 3 hours by foot to get there. To go up the waterfall you need good shoes though. The pathways are quite steep and slippery, so you need to be really careful. There are two waterfalls there: small and big. The small one is an easy hike while the big one is quite hard.

Usually from Tamga the tourists go to the waterfalls. This is the easiest and generally uninteresting departure for unassuming tourists. Only in the gorge, as we were told by our driver, there are not less than 7 waterfalls. Usually all go to three of them - appears to be called "Tears of leopard" and the other two  - "Bowl of Manas" and one more. Not bad waterfalls, but nothing unusual and fascinating. You can find plenty of similar in, say, in Laos, Malaysia, Thailand. The other four are higher up the road, not reaching the Arabel Syrt. Only one was visible from the road.

After a not too strenuous hike in the mountainous terrain you will come across the stunning Barscoon Waterfall. This is an impressive volume of water rushing down to feed the surrounding countryside and ultimately helps the local farmers irrigate their fields. A worthwhile hike on a pleasant day.

It is a 25 minute up-hill trek from the base and it is quite and easy trek. It is also fairly easy to reach from Karakol and most certainly worth a visit. Give yourself and hour for the entire trek and that should suffice.

Be careful to find the right path to the waterfall, otherwise, your day will be more about climbing than hiking. There are several waterfalls in the gorge. Waterfalls, forests, and views of surrounding mountains make the place worth of 40 minutes drive from the south shore of Issyk Kul.

The scenery and view is very good. It is very steep if you're going all the way up. The path should have been better maintained.
