you enter at a quaint little cafe and aren't quite sure you're at the right spot. when you walk in it seems like you are on someone's patio looking into their kitchen. Here you can order food (we didn't but hear that it's really quite good!) you are greeted warmly and asked to pay a fee (i don't remember what it is, but it's nominal and goes to the owners' upkeep of the property. We were greeted specifically by the man who keeps/owns the grounds and he gave us an overview of the trail system that goes through the gardens. it's a nice and easy walk through the forest and gardens up to a nice clearing where the view was beautiful even on a rainy cloudy day. the plants on the property are quite literally awesome and the trip on the path makes you feel like you've entered an elven world. we probably spent a leisurely hour on the circular route, stopping to take photos and breath it all in, you could do it more quickly i'm sure, or you could spend more time at the clearing at the top, where there is a lookout built. not sure if picnics are welcome, but if they are it would be a great place to have a time out. we saw probably a dozen agoutis snuffling about, which was quite fun, some neat birds and again, some remarkable plants. all in all, it's not a full day activity, but definitely worth a stop if you have some time! and again, i do hear we should have eaten there.

We had a wonderful night staying in the cabin in the gardens for one night and ate in the restaurant twice. The owners Bernan and Shirley and their son Pablo gave us the warmest welcome. The gardens are charming, a delight to explore and the cabin is excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant which was really good, then as we were leaving very early (to climb Cerro Chirripo) Shirley prepared a breakfast for us wrapped in banana leaves. The food was all excellent.

We visited Jardines Secretos in February 2022 and spent a beautiful evening dining there and speaking with the owner. The food was delicious, the environment was romantic and picturesque. We ate at a table next to a pond featuring ornamental plants by candlelight. The next day, we returned to tour the gardens during the day. The level of care that the proprietors invest in the gardens is evident and we are very thankful we got to absorb the beauty together. All in all I would highly recommend making a stop there!

This was my second visit to this lovely garden. I love the sounds of water flowing and many birds. There are various views and mostly shade, but a very samiil portion in the warm sun. The cafe is wonderful! Handmade Fig ice cream!

The family that own and run The Secret Garden are beyond professional and kind. The food is superb and a favorite breakfast place for us. Shirley is an excellent baker, their rooms and cabins are very nice, and the gardens and paths are delightful. So much to see...animals, birds, turtles, ponds with flowering plants, exotic trees, etc. We've had our family here, including grandchildren, and everyone loved it! We recommend everyone stop here if only for a coffee and to enjoy the peaceful setting. I love the empanadas while my husband always gets eggs and a pancake.

The gardens are lovely and peaceful. The paths are well marked. Walking shoes/trainers recommended. There's a variety of plants and birds to see and the view from the top end of the garden is lovely. Nice Cafe. Worth a visit if you are passing, or based nearby.

The son of the proprietors was our guide. Excellent English and a great person. He showed us an amazing assortment of exotic plants (and birds) concentrated in the gardens there. Very pleasant hike around the premises. We also met the owner who showed us around, as well. Very pleasant family. We hope to return next year.

If you are in San Gerardo, the Secret Gardens is a must-stop for lunch or dinner. The food is absolutely delicious, the owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the gardens themselves are breathtaking and gorgeous. Make sure you spend enough time there to walk through the entire grounds. Bird watching from the dining area and make sure you try the empanadas!

Arrived here not knowing what to expect and to kill some time. We stayed for hours! The garden is magnificent. Beautiful exotic flowers in a natural setting with waterways and waterfalls. Tropical birds in the trees and a lookout with lovely views. The owners were not there when we visited but the caretaker/gardener made us welcome and made the best smoothies of our 3 week visit to CR.

This was a very nice surprise. We walked some 25 minutes to find it and were taken on a nice tour through some beautiful gardens.
