We went there with a big group. This museum is huge and outstanding. The whole history is presented here. Sardarapat memorial is extremely important historical place for all Armenians. The museum was built in 1968.The memorial complex is located on a hill, from which the view of the Arax River and the Ararat valley opens, from the peaks of Ararat to Aragats, to the foothills of the Geghama mountain range. It is possible to see the battlefield of the battle of Sardarapat, the area where the troops were deployed and where combat operations were conducted.
It is definitely worth to visit!

Spending 3 hours in the museum isn't enough, based on my opinion. Admiring architecture and beautiful designs.

As Armenian living in Armenia I have to inform the TRIPADVISOR visitors that there is no place SARDARABAD near GYUMRI City.
SARDARABAD is located near ARMAVIR City (former HOKTEMBERYAN) in the ARMAVIR Marze (district).

This park and memorial complex near the Turkish border memorialises a battle in 1918 where Armenia's makeshift, rag-taggle little army beat the imperial Turks and so saved the nation from obliteration. The site includes a bell tower with 12 bells (symbolising the lost provinces again) and two enormous winged lions. The views are gorgeous over Ararat and the Armenian plain. The bells ring every year to celebrate the victory, when there are dances, concerts and celebrations on the armenian side, and protests and military manoeuvres on the Turkish side. There is also a memorial for the 'martyrs' of the Nagorny-Karabakh war.
There is an ethnographic museum that has some dodgy enthnography explaining why Armenia should own most of the region, plus rug weaving. Don't bother- even if you do find it open.

Impressive monument in a beautiful area with flowers and trees as a fine setting. Combined with an interesting museum, would recommend with a guided tour.

The memorial stands for a very important cause as the battle that was fought in this place was so important and in case Armenians didn't win In this battle there would have been no more Armenia left by now ... I enjoyed walking through the memorial and exploring the floors of the museum that has very knowledgeable guides who can explain to you all particulars .
