Wadi Bin Hammad is a beautiful place, but the people who work here will spoil your trip.
They will force a guide on you, for which you will pay dearly. They will then charge you an abnormally high price for using the ladder.
If I had known this before, I wouldn't have visited this place!

The canyon is really nice and we had the site for ourselves. Be prepared for a partly tough drive to the canyon but with nice views on bedouin life and the canyon. With a regular car you will be fine and it will take about 30min off the king's highway. The road to Wadi bin Hamad is small and partly steep, but you will not share it with many cars (we saw in total 3 cars) which makes it easier. There are no signs, except the sign of a tourist camp (if you see it you are on the right road but don't go offroad by the second sign). Just type Wadi bin Hamad in Google and you will get directions. There is only one crossing, but it will help you follow the road. When you enter the place you will be asked to pay 5JOD per person. If you wish to go further than the waterfall someone can guide you with ropes, we did enjoy the 1km trek to the waterfall (it really is not much further than 1km!). In total it took us in total 2-2,5 hours including pictures and drinking along the way. Water will only be as high as your knees and is warm. You can take your camera if you don't slip, we had our own drybag. The canyon is for a large part shaded. The view in the canyon is really nice and we enjoyed it really much. Expect to see palm trees, some flowers and nice rocks. You are near the waterfall when you see the "Elephant" rocks. After that its only 100m where you can turn back or continue if you have ropes or a guide with ropes... we were on hiking sandals that was good enough; use shoes that have profile. It is an easy stroll through and along the river till the waterfall, so you can really enjoy the canyon and don't have to look at your step all the time. A guide is not needed if you do only the part till the waterfall.

This is a beautiful canyon with a small stream relatively easy to walk with children, despite walking in water. Hanging gardens, beautiful rock formations, refreshing natural showers, wild palm trees clinging on the edge of the cliff, white and blue stream! It is really a hidden gem.
The road is challenging for the last kilometres. We recommend you take snacks as there is nothing close by, and a change of shoes and shorts for the way back!

It was mid of May actually when I visited this valley, the weather was fine, not very hot. The winding road leading to it was not easy to go through. As we arrived, there was a small service building were bathroom facilities are available.
As we start walking we found ourselves in a flourishing area with hanging gardens, palms and ferns growing wherever we look. Water level did not cover more than our ankles except once or twice where it was little bit higher.
Further down the cliffs we saw the brightly colored rocks, and a spectacular arch where the overhang has joined. At the end of the path we found ourselves in a vast open area with hanging shrubs and trees and small waterfalls surrounding it.
After we had a BBQ over there, we returned back through the same route.
The place is amazing, children can go through it easily, no need to be expert to pass it.

We were obviously lucky, unlike a couple of other reviewers who had bad experiences - we thought this was a brilliant 3-4 hour hike in a stunning setting. We went with a local guide as part of a 10-day hiking holiday and all had a great time. A fine drive down on a steep and narrow but tarmac’d road with dramatic rocky landscapes on both sides - in a 20-seater coach too, so should be fine in most small vehicles. The toilet block at the start of the hike is a bit cobwebby but the toilets work. And then the hike itself is great - downriver first, in warm water never above knee height, with increasingly high walls on both sides and luxuriant vegetation with occasional small waterfalls, and then after 1km or so the walls virtually meet overhead in places as they draw closer. The waterfall definitely needs the metal ladder to help negotiate it, and we carried on for another half an hour before stopping to have lunch in a partly sunny spot at the side of the river. The journey back up is straightforward - a little more tiring of course as we were now going upstream, but essentially a fairly easy but striking hike. Definitely one to do and worth the detour and the small charge per head.

We went to Wadi bin Hammad, based on these Tripadvisor reviews -- which turned out to be rubbish. So now read the real story. Getting to the place is like driving down into the Grand Canyon -- on the same narrow ledges the donkeys there use. It's terrifying -- with goats clogging the one-car lane sometimes, hairpin turns, eroded gullies threatening the integrity of the road in spots and very steep stretches on which the tires spun. We had a professional driver and I was terrified. The canyon is pretty but it costs 5 JD to get in -- not a huge amount but more than double the admission price for nearby Kerak Castle which is amazing and a better hike. There is trash and graffiti everywhere as people have noted here. The best part for us was a group of school boys visiting from Amman who practiced their English on us and delighted in diverting a pool of warm water atop the trail onto the stairs we were climbing. We were not sure it if was vandalism or a cool trip, but the guys seemingly in charge of the place and their bus driver (A BUS FULL OF CHILDREN ON THAT ROAD, OH MY GOD!) sat smoking in the shade undisturbed by it all. There is no real trail, by the way, just the stream that is indeed pleasant to walk in. But to come all that way and then down that scary road for the kind of stream you see every other mile in upstate New York? No, not worth it at all.

It is quite the drive to this beautiful little river, but it is well worth it. Our G Adventure Guide (Zu)was very happy to stop the car for us to take pictures of the huge valley and the Dead Sea in the distance. The drive from Amman went very quickly as Zu pointed out many interesting things including explaining the differences between Gypsy and Bedouin tents! The river was beautiful and surprisingly warm. Our 11 year old had a great time splashing in the currents and looking at all the unusual rock formations and it was no problem or Zu that we took forever to get reorganized and then loaded the trunk with all the wet muddy clothes. From here we went to the castle at Karak!

I thin Wadi bin Hammad is a place not so known from the majority of foreign tourists, also because is situated in a particular Valley, that where you can arrive at your own risk, because the way is very bad. But when you arrive you can discover a sort of paradise in the desertic Jordan Land. You can walk in the little river with a guide, see green nature, and cross a waterfall...you can do it just if you like adventure! You need 2 or three hours.
Near the waterfall you can find people who offer you a cup of tea...

Beautiful place. Narrow canyon with white, red, green colours. The stream was fast white water. You have to go into the water. It's easy and interesting track, the hanging gardens over your head, it's like paradise.
