A MUST on the sightseeing agenda.
An incredible awe-inspiring place. Just wow! Make sure you visit with plenty of time to experience all aspects and walk around the trail and visiting platforms. I would suggest 2 hours, plus time for a coffee. Norway at its best! Enjoy!

Controlled water flow but still stunning
We visited in the evening and it was very quiet with just a few other visitors but this is a very popular tourist destination and gets very busy with coach trips. It is high up in the mountains and takes a good 20 min drive from Eidfjord along winding roads and tunnels. There is a large carpark and the area is laid out well with lots of walkways and viewing platforms. If you have mobility or walking difficulties I would recommend you stay at the top and enjoy the spectacular views and scenery as the various walks down to the old bridge are uneven and slippery and there are alot of steps to the new bridge. The area is absolutely stunning with the waterfalls cascading into the valley below but we were there in Spring and there should have been alot more water cascading down which we found a little disappointing. We were told the water flow is controlled, and it showed! That said, it is still an incredible sight and the area is spectacular.

An Eidfjord experience not to be missed
Had a great virtually private tour with Hardanger Guide Service to Voringsfossen waterfall and then on to the Hardanger plateau. (Approx 3 hours) There was one main stop at the Falls and then a further stop at the dam and 2 other lookout points. The scenery was spectacular, although sadly the weather was a bit damp and obscured the view of the Glacier. Mark, our driver/tour guide was extremely informative and an excellent driver. Transport was in a 7-seater minibus - very comfortable. Booking and pick-up was from outside the Tourist information centre next to the cruise dock. Believe you can also book in the Tourist office. There is no Website but you can contact Mark by email - hardangerguideservice@gmail.com. I hadn't anticipated doing a tour in Eidfjord but am very glad I decided to book this tour on the spur of the moment. It was well worth the cost - NOK1450. There are cheaper options for similar tours but not in the comfort of a small minivan or with such a knowledgeable guide. Thank you Mark.

    Awesome Sights on a Budget
So you want to see the sights while in Eidfjord but don't want to spend a lot of money, right? Who does? If you came by boat, stop by the information center and buy a ticket for the Voringfossen waterfall. If you buy the ticket outside of the info building it should cost about 41 dollars. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the waterfall. Work your way down to the bridge but don't cross it. Take all the pictures and video you want and return to the top. Pat yourself on the back for saving a few pennies. In my case I saved about 35000 pennies.

We had been scheduled to visit here (end of April) on an excursion from our cruise ship docked in Eidfjord. We had been notified that the visit could not be exactly as arranged due to the amount of snow at the viewing platform, which was closed for safety reasons. On arrival at the car/coach park, even that was closed but we parked at the side of the road, and the guide decided after checking with her HQ to take those who wanted to go on foot, near enough to hear but not see the waterfall due to the weather. She did take some intrepid travellers part of the way into the closed off area at their own risk. Hey, not me! (I walk with a stick anyway). But the scenery was still pretty spectacular.

Vøringsfossen is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway with a total drop of 182 meters with a water flow of at least 12 m3 per second – and that is a lot of water. It has become even more visitor-friendly since Norwegian Scenic Routes started building several viewing platforms, paths, fences, car parks and viewing points around the fall. In August 2020, the latest addition, a bridge over the falls, was opened. The water falls from Hardangervidda into Måbødalen which is a narrow, steep and beautiful valley that gives all the way down to Eidfjord. Majestic! Vøringsfossen must not be missed!
Note: Until the 19th century, Vøringfossen was hardly known to anyone but the locals. The only way there were 1,500 steps up Måbøfjellet, but in the 1880s Ola Garen decided to build a hotel by the waterfall. In 1891 a new road was completed and the same year Fossli Hotel was completed in Art Nouveau style. Around 1900 large cruise ships started going further into Eidsfjord and from there passengers were transported by horse and carriage up through the valley. 1915 the first car went all the way up to Fossli and on that road it is.

With the bus we took the bus for 34,00 euros (round trip). The ride was worth it. For the bus ticket there is a drink at the hotel. Great viewpoints and spectacular waterfalls await you. Even if it is very crowded at the waterfall you can still see well. There's enough room for everyone on the parapet.

In a word: Great! What a sight. The viewing platforms allow different perspectives on the natural spectacle. That should have been seen. Very good, stable footwear (trekking shoes) is recommended. You should be able to put your fear of heights just behind you.

Another fantastic place we have visited on our circuit in Norway was “Voringfossen”.
This location great to visit because it is the location who is assembles a group of dozens of waterfalls with the status of the highest in Norway. This place is located at the top of the Måbødalen valley, on a branch of national road 7 that connects Oslo to Bergen and vice versa. The highest waterfall from all measures around 182 meters. Naturally, it is one of Norway's tourist attractions where you will see allot of people walking around – we could think that it is probably one of the most visited waterfalls in the country. In addition to the various viewpoints, there is a pedestrian bridge practically over the falls, which gives it a unique spectacularity! All together a location who must be on you bucket list of visits in Norway.

Per ⁇ Norway's most famous waterfall, with stairs and bridges where you can travel safely, as long as you are not tempted to climb the fences.
The waterfall is regulated, but it is decided that there should be limited regulation in the summer so that the waterfall does not become empty or too small.

Nice water.

The Voringfossen waterfalls are located about three hours' drive from Bergen and are stunning. Many waterfalls that converge in the river below. Don't miss the view from the super technological bridge suspended more than 100 meters high. The weather wasn't the best, but we still managed to appreciate them.

Truly spectacular. After our first visit we decided to go back once again a few days later. And it was well worth it, we were lucky with the weather too. If it rains, it's worth to wait 20-30 minutes to clear up.
