A wonderfully quiet and deserted area. Do not drive arouund off the beaten tracks, as you will damage the nature. Always make sure you have plenty of water with you, and tell someone where you are going. Amazing area.

The Dorub National Park is a protected area of the Erongo region of Namibia that was established in 2010. It includes the area between the Kuiseb River Delta south of Walvis Bay and the Ugab River in the north.
The Dorub features sand dune belt near Swakopmund. There are registered tour providers who are able to enter the NP with vehicles and show visitors some of the flora and fauna of the nearby desert. This is a good way to see what lives in the Dorub, including geckos, other lizards, spiders and hares. The Dorub is also home to numerous bird species, perhaps most notably the large coastal flamingo populations in and around Walvis Bay.
There are numerous dessert activities like quad biking and sandboard which visitors to Walvis Bay and Swakopmund can participate in as well.
The dunes around Swakopmund are very interesting to see as well. Large amounts of magnetite and other minerals in the sand, making way for colourful dunes which appear to have been painted with a broad brushstroke. They are beautiful and a nice contrast to the deep red and orangish dunes you might have seen in Sossusvlei. Large gravel plains make up another large portion of the Dorub National Park, sadly large tracts of these plains are scared by tire tracks made over the decades.
Note: Interestingly, with the creation of the Dorub National Park, the Namibian authorities have essentially created a continuous run of protected coastal desert area reaching from its northern border with Angola to the southern border with South Africa.

This national park is extensive along the Atlantic coast of Namibia. We only visited a small section between Swakomund and Walvis Bay. Beautiful dunes especially contrasting with the ocean. If you do not have time to make an extensive drive into the dunes then at least make the visit along the coast line.

We visited Walvis Bay and just stepped into a little part of the park on the edge of the town towards the salt works.
Went up some of the small dunes and around the water pans on that side.
Will definitely make arrangements for more time with our next visit and also look at a guided tour if available.
Amazing how the sand and the see (wetlands) gets together on this side of the park.

This park doesn't have any entrance gates nor fees.
We visited several parts of it with the highlights being between Cape Cross and Walvis Bay.
Our friend went on an organised tour to see the "Small 5" (instead of the "Big 5), which covers the most impressive little creatures who roam around in the dunes.
Overall, absolutely worth visiting.
