We went in the winter so we weren't able to enjoy the gardens. We took a private tour. Lots of French aristocratic portraits. Nicely decorated for Christmas down to the set tables. They don't offer tours in English but sell a guidebook. We had a nice lunch at the Cafe on premises. They did an excellent job of accommodating our large group.

We visit this castle every August during the Scottish Games. Last year we tooked a tour thru exposures in the castle chambers. It was very nice and it's worth to visit this castle and take the tour in every season. Don't forget to walk thru the garden.

This excursion was offered from our river cruise on Grand Circle Travel, and I recommend it. I didn't know a thing about it, but we had an excellent guide that described the French family taking it over in the 19th century for more than 100 years. There are beautiful, authentic furniture pieces, and you get a realistic view of life at the time. And best of all - it wasn't crowded with tons of tourists as with other sights. It is located about 1.5 hours from Prague, and it is a nice drive through beautiful scenery, with a view to the hills. This is well worth a visit, most of all to get away from the HUGE crowds in Prague itself.

We toured this castle with a group from Grand Circle Travel. It is an incredibly well-preserved castle on beautiful grounds. Note the sound-deadening (for horses' hoofs) circles of wood in the floor of the entrance to the castle. The woodwork in this castle is truly incredible, and it was all done by one artisan over a period of 38 years! We ate dinner in the pavilion, several hundred yards from the castle, with a great view of the castle. Dinner was so-so, but the setting was great.

I toured Sychrov Castle in October 2010 as part of a Grand Circle Tour group. Arriving in the late afternoon, we had the castle to ourselves. The castle keeper actually followed our tour and locked up each room as we departed. The castle is in amazing condition; its interiors and artifacts are superb. Our guide was very informative and allowed our group to take hundreds of photographs of the furnishings, artwork, even the architectural features and door hinges! All of her anecdotes about life in the castle, its inhabitants and its treasures were magnificent. A delicious dinner at the restaurant followed our tour. Our visit to Sychrov Castle was a highpoint of our tour for this history and architecture lover.

We arrived at the castle after dark. It was lit up nicely. It happened to be a cold rainy night, as well. The castle is not heated. We had a splendid organ recital before a tour of the castle. Our guide knew a lot about the Rohan family and the history of the castle. The castle is a very nice tour with original furnishings. Portraits are everywhere. It is worth the drive to the castle.
We generally have an idea in our minds of what a castle should look like. This is not it. It is closer to a French Chateau both in looks, layout, and furnishings.
Very nice.

Sychrov Castle is one of the most beautiful castles of Czech Republic. It lies just one hour away from Prague and its visit can be easily combined with some other interesting destinations e.g. the nature reserve Czech Paradise or historical towns Liberec, Jičín or the centre of bead manufacturing Jablonec nad Nisou. The castle has very well furnished interiors and is surrounded by a romantic park. There is a nice restaurant there when you can have a lunch. It is a great place to go if you don´t want to travel too far from Prague and do not like touristy places. The castle has not been discovered yet by foreigner tourists and so it is not that overcrowded as the castles Karlštejn or Český Krumlov.

A magnificent palace, rather than castle, encompassing a lovely large garden with an outstanding collection of mature trees. Although the palace is very extensive and highlights superb craftsmanship in so many areas, it retains the feeling of a family home, albeit that of a very wealthy family. It has a much warmer feel to it than many palaces or castles one visits. Anyone interested in mature trees will love spending time strolling through the park, with a stop for coffee and cake at the delightful little cafe in the former Orangerie at the far end of the garden.
We visited in early May and were two of only six on the tour, which was in Czech with an English translation available. This was sufficient but a tour in English would have been better.
A highly recommended attraction.

We normally come to Prague for a week over Christmas and are always looking out for new things to see. This year we visited Castle Sychrov for the day.

Whilst it’s not one of the must see sights of Prague it is well worth visiting. A private transfer from Prague Airport Taxis cost us CZK 1900 plus CZK 220 per hour waiting time at the castle itself.

Tours in English weren’t available over Christmas so we had t take a tour in Czech. This wasn’t a problem as we were able to buy (CZK 20 each) English texts of the tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our and would quite happily recommend it to anyone else looking for a day outside Prague.

My parents got married here 40 years ago so we took them for a surprise trip. Beautiful castle with amazing wood carving and decoration in every room. The Orangery cafe is also amazing.
We had lunch in the restaurant Rohanska and were pleasantly surprised with the choice and the food was really excellent.
Great day out!
