I find this place very impressive,Cathedral dome dose not repaired till and I think this is the most important part of the beauty of this place ,silent area and you can hear just the sounds of birds in the cathedral.Do not miss.
History:(wikipedia)Aruchavank or the Cathedral of Aruch is situated on a rocky plateau at the western foot of Mount Aragats in the village of Aruch in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia. According to wall inscriptions on the east wall and manuscripts written by historians the church and adjoining building for residence (the palace) were commissioned by Prince Grigor Mamikonian and his wife Heghine/Heline between 661-682 AD.Architecturally it is one of the most important Armenian churches of the Middle Ages and also one of the largest. Aruch became a citadel in the later Middle Ages.
There is some controversy as to the exact date of the completion of this church because of the reference in the inscription to the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine III (641). According to Marr, Haroutyunyan, and Manutcheryan, it is believed that there is confusion with the emperor Constans II (641-668).
The church was restored during 1946-1948, except for the drum and cupola. The church had been extensively damaged by earthquakes and possibly by its use as a fortress in the 16th and 17th centuries (Oramanian, 1948).

This non operating church is one of the oldest churches in Armenia. It was partly destroyed by earthquakes and never been restored, so not operating today.

From outside this old church looks humble but size of it tells something about that how important it was during the rule of Mamikonian dynasty.Church separates a lot from normal Armenian churches and is very interesting.
We had special welcome to the church when opened the door: a lot of jack raven started to circle around the huge building and fly out from the collapsed dome.
Around the church it is possible to find lot of carved rocks and thumb stones.

Visit this church for sure. It is very unique. The roof is distroyed so inside you have green grass or snow. Very close to the cathedral you can find ancient cemetery, which also makes this place very unique. Walk another 200 meters and you will find ruins of a castle walls (close to the village`s school)
