Pleasant and interesting walk
May 2021
We had a lovely walk through the Reserve and it was pleasant even on a dull day. We enjoyed walking along the Sweet Track - a replica wooden track built 6,000 years ago through the peat marshes. There were very few people around so it was a tranquil experience.

Calm and will fix your chacras

Great place of peace and tranquillity, my wife stayed in the car and had a sleep whilst I walked around the marshes, this made it even more peaceful, would recommend. There's life everywhere, the hide's are in good condition, the paths very obvious. Like other's have said, being very flat makes it a lovely easy walk to take at a very leisurely pace.

Wonderful area for exploring - and a chance ta see the elusive bittern
Aug 2019
Although we didn't manage to see this elusive bird, the first thing we heard as we started our walk around the Reserve was the booming of the bitterns - a wonderful sound that reverberates around the reserve. The whole area is wonderful for bird watching whether you are a twitcher or not - and I am definately not. For me it is about being out in the fresh air and just enjoying nature and the whole experience and birds are just a part of that. This is of course their environment, although plenty of other creatures live in the Somerset Levels as well. As a regular visitor to Glastonbury it's incredible to think that this was the first time I had got out and about exploring the levels at all. I loved the quiet and the sense of unspolt nature and solitude which is hard to get where I live where its always busy and bustling despite its proximity to nature. The area is perfect for nature lovers of all descriptions - dog walkers, cyclists, or just people like us wanting the fresh air and the chance to explore.

Beautiful!
Aug 2019 • Couples
We parked at the cafe and walked along to the marshes. They are absolutely beautiful. The walk is flat and not challenging at all. The walks are really well signposted. We saw birds, dragonflies, bees, frogs and a grass snake swimming along. We also saw a bird of prey but can’t remember what they’re called. It was such a pleasant walk which took around an hour although there are longer or shorter walks available. Dogs are not allowed on the main walk.

A must for everyone !!

If you wanting a stroll , long walk , dog walk or to get the kids out the house then follow the canal .
If you want to immerse yourself in unspoilt nature at its best turn right to decoy hide.
We saw numerous birds , a mole was making a mound and a grass snake swimming in the stream .
There are picnic spots , benches , view points and hides with sawdust or rubber paths. The hide was amazing . I got shots of herons in flight , swans , 5 different ducks , moor hens the list is endless .
2 years ago at dusk we were lucky enough to see the Starling Murmour here . 20,000 birds all meeting in waves in the sky with the sound of bees humming and then all landing together , spectacular
What ever the weather this place is worth a visit and just up the road is Sweets Tea Rooms that serve great food !

Starling Murmuration
Feb 2019 • Couples
We arrived at Ham Wall early evening in time to see the starlings come in to roost.
Unfortunately they headed to Shapkwick Heath
The opposite way.
We saw a small murmuration from a distance
But have decided to return again tomorrow as the weather is going to be perfect.

It’s an amazing place to view wild life and child and dog friendly.
Toilets are available which is a bonus also you will need some small change for the car park.

A must experience to view. 😉
