Worth breaking your journey for a few minutes
Aug 2016 • Solo
If you find yourself driving along the B3151 north-west of Glastonbury, it is worth stopping for a few minutes in Meare to see the 14th century Abbot's Fish House — the only surviving monastic fishery building in England, now in the care of English Heritage.

Park your car at the junction of St Mary’s Road/Glastonbury Road and Porters Hatch, and the fish house is just yards away along a public footpath. There’s not much to see, but you can walk round the outside and peer in through windows and a doorway. If you want to go inside you can obtain a key from nearby Manor House Farm — but it's hardly worth bothering because there is nothing much inside that you can’t see from outside.
