getting here was a bit of drive... not in length but in windy roads...AND Totally worth it!! i have read about this monastery and the Miracle tree for 3 years and really wanted to see this... it was worth every bit of time finding it...Plus the nuns are just sweet and loving. There is also a Gateway at the top by the parking lot... i LOVE gateways....!! A must SEE!!!!

As soon as we walked thru the door, peace swept over us. The courtyard is magical with vibrant flowers and towering palms. You can feel an air of love as you explore the outside of the church. The most impressive thing for us was the ancient myrtle tree. Bring an interpreter to hear about the story of picture and the healings people have received praying here. It is bit outside of Heraklion, but completely worth the trip.

Unfortunately we couldn't get into the nunnery itself but it was still a lovely place to visit: very peaceful with well kept grounds. Loved seeing the old myrtle tree and lit a candle in memory of my mum and dad.

The Monastery of Paliano is so very beautiful. Everywhere you go there are stunning flowers in pots. The sacred myrtle tree is hung with offerings. The church itself was not open when we visited. There is a small shop offering devotional items and books, as well as small offerings for the tree made by the nuns.
Free to enter but please wear clothing showing due respect to this site. There is a car park.
(I suggested 1 - 2 hours for as visit if the church was open. If not then about an hour would suffice.)

A delight to visit this peaceful monastery/nunnery. The church is packed with icons and atmosphere; and surrounded by the small rooms occupied by nuns. The sacred Myrtle tree is hung with prayerful symbols. Beyond the walls a landscape of gorges and olive trees, small farms and in the distance the mountains of central Crete.
