Summer is firmly here to stay in the Cairngorms so why not visit Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. It's a time for shedding that thick winter coat, grazing and putting on weight for the reindeer as well as growing your new antlers! Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm (additional 3.30 in July & August) at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself, quizzes & Crafts.

We visited the raindeer sanctuary as part of a day trip to Aviemore. I found the trip to be fantastic and enjoyed every minute of it. We where escorted from the raindeer centre to a car park about a mile up the road. To get to the raindeer you have to do a short guided walk, thus takes about 30... More

An absolutely wonderful experience. It's a steep walk up the mountain and you'll need to be relatively fit but it's fantastic to be able to walk amongst the reindeer and feed them by hand. I could have stayed for hours!

Lovely walk in the hills to see an impressive herd of reindeer and get a chance to find out about these lovely creatures and hand feed them. Suitable for any age who can walk upp and down a hill without any aids.

Even if the drive and walk up the hill to the herd are not for you, you can meet some of the reindeer down in the paddock at the informative exhibit. The animals belong to a family and like Santa's, have names and people who care about them as individuals. They are in fact domesticated animals! Learn more about why... More

Fantastic place with an excellent centre explaining the history of bringing reindeer back to Scotland, information on the breed and reindeer generally. We had the pleasure of being able to help feed them which our 3 year old loved.

First it was busy, get there a little early (10:30 for the 11am tour). Was a bit worried it was to busy and the experience might have been impacted but no way!! The tour leaders were fantastic and I doubt there is anything they don't know about the herd. Felt privileged to visit the herd and everyone love it. A... More

A fun and educational day out. The staff are very friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable. They are passionate about the animals and that comes through. On a side note I always read negative reviews first, and i have to say a lot if what I read is unfounded. Yes the sat nav brings you to a different location but a sat... More
