Summer is firmly here to stay in the Cairngorms so why not visit Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. It's a time for shedding that thick winter coat, grazing and putting on weight for the reindeer as well as growing your new antlers! Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm (additional 3.30 in July & August) at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself, quizzes & Crafts.

I like deer, but reindeer is an important part of growing up, this animals are very cool, it would be good for children to see real reindeer (if I had kids l'd take them, to see all types of nature before humans remove their life's, homes) I've never seen an all white reindeer before, I do hope they gain some... This is a must if in the area. Found out about it by chance in the December issue of BBC Wildlife Magazine.

A bit pricey for what's there but you are guaranteed to see some reindeer so ideal if you have children.

This was a magic experience on a cold late November weekend with our 3 young children. They loved Santas reindeers & are still talking about it now.

It has been a while since our visit to the herd, but in the light of us going again in april (which already hints at how great it was) I thought I might as well still write a review about that visit. It was absolutely wonderful, the guide was extremely friendly and helpful: she provided answers to all our questions... More

It was just way too cold for our two year old, and just too icy to do the walk whilst carrying him, the reindeer welcome centre was all wee could do. It is what it is, and at least we got to see some of the herd and learn so much about them in the welcome centre. Would like to... More

The staff were very helpful, friendly and informative,as after meeting up in a car park a short distance from the centre we set off along a snow covered footpath, down a steep hill, across a bridge and then up again before arriving at the enclosure where the reindeer were overwintering. We all had an opportunity to feed the reindeer who... More

Did this trip on a perfect cold and sunny day. The walk up the mountain was really nice and the views when you get to the herd are stunning. The guides were really helpful and the kids (and adults) really enjoyed getting up close to the reindeer and hand feeding them.
