The hills are turning green, the sun is mostly shining and spring is here to stay! Take a visit to see Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. May is an exciting time for us reindeer herders as antlers are beginning to grow and it’s calving season! Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you’ve got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Spaces are limited so please arrive in good time for your chosen visit. For those less able, from Easter to New Year, you can visit a small group of reindeer in the paddock & exhibition at the Centre, quizzes and crafts for children.

Saw this originally on Countryfile and have wanted to do it ever since. It was worth the wait. As well as an interesting talk on the history of the herd, you get right next to them during the visit. If you want, you can feed...More

We had planned a trip to see the reindeer after adopting one last year. The fact that the reindeer are in the UK is a huge bonus as no need to head off to colder climates to see them. We arrived at the visitor centre...More

I visited the herd this morning and was not disappointed! Although the hill trek advises it is about 25 minutes, it is not hard at all and there are lots of stops to learn about the deer. I didn't expect the experience to be quite...More

We were lucky enough to stumble upon this in my guidebook, and it was the highlight of our holiday. It's cheap enough (they offer student discount) and the reindeer herders are so enthusiastic about their livestock. Pay to go on their hill excursion and you...More

If you are even remotely interested in animals/reindeer then you need to do this. It was so amazing being up close with these beautiful creatures and you get to hand feed them! Julia, our guide, was super friendly and obviously knew a lot about them....More

Hi There, We open back up again on the 11th of February. Visits are both weather and reindeer dependent at this time of year as we have to locate the herd every day and the mountain can be stormbound. It's definitely worth... More
