The cold season is here and the Cairngorms feels more like the arctic

every day, the reindeer have grown in their thick winter coats to keep

nice and cosy over the long winner. Visits to the herd are every day at

11am at this time of year, you will walk amongst the reindeer, stroking

and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in

the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy

beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20

minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside;

sturdy footwear and waterproof layers are a must! Visit numbers are

limited so please arrive as early as possible. Don't fancy the hill

trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small

group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself.

Fabulous experience

This is one of the most joyous things we have done with our teenagers. So exciting feeding these beautiful animals on a cold and sunny January day! Just awesome!

We went here spontaneously because we met some people up on Cairngorm mountain who said there were reindeer everywhere. She thought the centre was closed but I found it open when I thought I'd try my luck. The hill walk was fully booked so our only option was to pay £3, but I enjoyed watching them and they came pretty... More

What a fun place! Staff are superb! Great for young and old visitors. Option to go out on hill visit - 1 hours walk - not so good for wee ones.

We just turned up in the passing. Whilst the trip to view the reindeer on the mountain left at 11am (best be there by 10.30 to secure a space) we turned up at 12pm. We were able to view the deer in the paddocks. There were lots of little areas suitable for small children like an elf house, BBQ house... More

You can't pre book or even pre reserve which is frustrating. It says that they hardly ever fill up for the hill tour so we were surprised that on a cold January day we got there and it was full. We were there 20 minutes before the tour and saw another 2 disappointed families. I think if they kept better... More

Many thanks for your review, and I’m sorry you were disappointed by your trip to visit us. I do appreciate that it is very frustrating to get here and find the Hill Trip is already fully booked, but unfortunately we cannot offer pre-booking and the only way we can sell tickets is on a first come, first served basis. The... More

Didn't do the hill walk since grandson is 3 but we had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to the paddock and exhibition area. Next time would do the walk. He loved the reindeer and the crafts to play with inside. Highlight for him was the elf house Cafe and other facilities a two minute walk away at Glenmore Lodge. Would recommend

This is the second time we have visited the Cairngorm reindeers and we thoroughly enjoyed it again, the first time having been 16 years ago. The leaders were so friendly and informative - especially the main leader (think she was called Abbie). The reindeers were lovely and friendly and feeding them was fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to do this trip... More

I visited here while staying in Aviemore. The guide was knowledgeable and fun. There is an approximate 20 minute walk which includes up and down a hill/steps but on a good path to reach the herd. The path is manageable for youngish children and those who are a little bit slower. You get to hand feed the reindeer who are... More

We visited the paddock and exhibition in the afternoon and was told to come early the next morning to confirm our places in the walking tour. The tour starts at a carpark near the Cairngorm mountain funicular railway, quite a long walk. I had to carry our 3 year old to make sure we were not left behind, but my... More
