This is a wonderful place and certainly worth the "detour" (in fact it isn't close to anything!), however at least at this season the Laguna is quite small meaning that birds are far away on top of being very shy! We saw many (hundreds) of flamingos but all from a distance (don't forget your binoculars). There is single official access to the Laguna from the south-east corner, from there a 7 km track allows you to be at walking distance from the shore. Although it was a bit disappointing from an ornithological point of view (we only saw maybe 10 species), the landscape is just fantastic and is enough to justify the trip. Access is not that bad on improved gravel roads from all sides, just a lot of dust.

Hi, I´ve read the best season to see flamingoes is April however, we´re heading northwest of our beautiful country in August. Does anybody know if there´s a chance to see any of these birds by that time? Maybe it´s just not worth the drive... Thank you!

Yes, you can see them in August. Don´t go in summer time because of the rain

Thank you for your reviews about Pozuelos Laguna.
I don't have a car. Is it possible to go they by walking? Is it possible to get a taxi from Abra Pampa to the Laguna?
Thank you

Hi Tomer, by walking certainly not. By taxi most probably yes ( about 50-60km I think) , there are also tours from various towns along the Humahuaca valley which would probably be easier. Don' forget you don'want to overnight there so the return trip should also be considered.
