This is special place in the nature. Peaceful. Nice church and view. The guide given good and interested information about this church and 1. world war.
Way by car is a little "crazy" - the road is very very narrow and if you are not a good driver, you can have problems....
From parking place after this crazy road , you need 20 minutes to church.

On Sunday we took a walk to the the Memorial Church of Javorca. This beautiful wooden structure lies high above the rushing Tolminka river. It was built by the Austrians and is dedicated to fallen Austro-Hungarian defenders on the Soča (Isonzo) Front (1915–1917).
In 2007 the church was classed as a historical monument bearing the European Cultural Heritage sign.
It is also one of the stations along the historical Walk of Peace, which links together monuments and remains from the First World War in the upper Soča region.

This hidden gem has still very narrow road from Tolmin – Zatolmin and up to the valley. When you reach the sign for even narrower path, park your car if it is not a jeep. Walk slowly up to the left and then turn right. You will see the complex for the first time. A wooden church stands on a stone pedestal, near a staircase. You will have fine view around. In summer season church is open each weekend. Check first. You can walk around or enter to wooden interior with blue decorations and panels with names of more than 2560 fallen soldiers. Sit for a while, to look at details or just to pray. You can take some more time to admire mountains or have a picnic on the nearest meadow.

We tried driving up here and it was a pretty harrowing experience. We're well traveled (20 countries and counting) We didn't make it to the top of this road because about 1 kilometer in the road becomes too narrow for two cars and turns from asphalt into gravel. The road continues to ascend and there are NO guardrails. There is definitely not enough room for two cars to fit, luckily we didn't run into any other cars.
We got about 3 kilometers in and it was so high at that point my husband and I were both pretty scared. We decided to try to turn around but there was no way to do so. We continued on and were lucky that the road widened out at a certain point and we turned around and got the heck out of there. Promptly went to the local coffee shop and sat there for an hour trying to recompose ourselves.
We then went to the tourist office to ask or advice on places to go for the day and the woman at the tourist office suggested we visit this place. I told her that we were just there and that the road was scary and that it did'nt seem wide enough for two cars. SHe laughed and said "It's a mystery how two cars can fit!" and I thought to myself, "Lol, I don't think there's any mystery there's a bunch of dead tourists at the bottom of that ravine!"
Triglav is a beautiful area but this particular pass is frightening and in my opinion not worth risking it.

This can be a little tricky to get to, but it is entirely worth the effort. I'd been on the fence about going as I was trying to fit a lot of sightseeing into a small amount of time, and I'm so glad that I didn't skip it. The chapel is beautiful and in lovely condition, and the relative isolation gives a small taste as to what sort of environment it was that the folks on the front here during WWI were operating in.
There are no toilets on site - there are a pair of port-a-potties in the parking area roughly 1.5 kilometers downhill from the chapel, although I think these are seasonal. There is a tap behind the chapel built into a perimeter wall that one can drink from - much to my relief given how hot it was the day I went.
There's a shuttle which runs frequently from Tolmin, information for which is available at the hotels in the town as well as in the town museum. I drove and then hiked, as I was not eager to share a van in these COVID times. This involved roughly seven kilometers on a narrow and winding mountain road before I parked at the base of the final ascent. It is also possible to simply hike this road, which I saw a decent number of people doing. The final bit is roughly a kilometer and a half up-hill on a well-paved road that is set at a steep grade. It was a VERY hot day when I went, so I was beat by the time I reached the top, especially as I hadn't adjusted to the altitude yet.

Places like this makes you reflect on relativity of things in life.
Beautiful church on an even more beautiful location. The local guide also informed us very well and added a lot of knowledge on our limited knowledge on WW1.
From the church you can continue the way up to the spring of Tolminka river and on the way up you get past a small farm selling local cheese.
We had a great day combining all.

This is such a peaceful church and a wonderful memorial to all the Astro-Hungarian soldiers who lost their lives in WW1. The views are just fantastic down into the valley, and you can sit for a long time taking it all in.
It costs €4 to enter, but the very welcoming English-speaking man who looks after the church provided such an excellent background history and stories that it was more than worth the money. He clearly has a passion for this great church and it really showed. It was very interesting to see how it fell into total disrepair and was saved too.
The destination is superb, but the journey is fun too. It's a 7km gravel mountain road, with no barriers whatsoever for almost the entire length, to save you plummeting into the valley below. It gets particularly interesting when you have to find a passing place for oncoming cars on this single-track road! We took a campervan up there, but no motorhomes were venturing further, turning around as soon as it became apparent that this would be a hairy few kilometres! Once you're on it though, you're committed ... you can't turn around anywhere and go back. But, if you are condfident, it isn't fine ... just drive slowly and enjoy the xperience!
There's a car park eventually where most people leave their car and walk the last 400 meters up a particularly steep and narrow hill to the church, but you could drive right up to the church. There are a couple of houses behind the church so people do do it.

Getting to javorca involves a 7km drive through a very narrow road and then a steep 20 minute walk. The church is very well maintained with it's Fresco's. Recommend seeing it.

Beautiful architecture, wooden church, decorated by famous Vienna's artist Remigius Geyling,a friend of Gustav Klimt. Beautiful valley and nature surrounding, mountains and emerald Tolminka river. Church located in Triglav national park, worth to see this peaceful scenery.

Europe recognizes the special value of this simple wooden building in unspoilt nature as monument with European heritage label. You can be alone between the cattle on the meadows; you can walk up there or organize a trip with your bike (better – mountain bike). Place is less than 10 km from Tolmin. Try to find the church open. Inner room has two faces: one is wooden boards with names of fallen soldiers. Second, optimistic part is altar and upper part. They are face of heaven with angels, blue decorations and light. This is not memorial for generals and politicians. It is dedicated to people, ordinary men, to peace. Church and nature are one, real human size. Pleasant custodians are additional value. They can explain you the Ways of path, the nearest mountains or just greet you as friends.
