- Emilie GMontrouge, France1,602 contributionsA must-see in the areaThis is a must-see in the area of Tolmin. Definitely make sure you have enough time to visit this place. We would recommend around two hours to take the time to visit it. One of the car parks, the further away one is free and the walk is easy from it. If you come after a certain time, it is cheaper (8€ for us around 5pm). The staff at the welcome was incredible and the map given makes it easy to find you way. Enjoy this gorgeous and magical place!Visited August 2021Written September 26, 2021
- Jon SAmesbury, United Kingdom73 contributionsIncredible nature walkA beautiful part of Slovenia and a stunning gorge walk. The waters are the most incredible blue colour and there are plenty of opportunities for incredible photos. The paths are easy to follow however there are numerous steps so visitors with limited mobility may struggle. We took our 7 year old boys with us and they managed it just fine and there were families with younger children who coped. Parking is just by the enterance and there is a small extra charge for this which is somewhat annoying however there is nowhere esle to leave your vehicle so we accepted it as part of the trip.Visited April 2022Written April 18, 2022
- FamilLorKoper, Slovenia62 contributionsCharming natureThis was our second visit (first one was 6 years ago). The Gorge is a wonderful and calm Haven on Earth if you’re fortunate enough not to find a crowded timeline as we did. We have rated 4 stars just because the parking lot is quite expensive (3eur for 1 hour.. which automatically goes to 6eur because od the lenght of the tour).Visited August 2020Traveled with familyWritten August 5, 2020

The place is very nice but the price of the entry ticket (8.00€) is not justified for the offered services and the price of the parking is absolutely out of the world (3€ per hour) and not justified. For the price of the ticket so expensive I would expect an indoor parking and a shuttle that take the visitor to the Gorge.
Prices in all Slovenia have grown up over any decent level without any other reason than satisfy the growing greed of slovenian. Same for the Koziak fall, for parking in Bled and many other places. It seems that they are only interested it taking as much money as they can from the turist that will never return after such an experience.

This destination and experience is such a disappointment especially if you visited other beautiful destinations Slovenia has to offer (such as Vintgar, Triglav national Park, its numerous waterfalls and trails). Tolmin gorge is false advertising at its best. They will charge you 8 EUR (10 in summer months) per adult and 3 EUR per parking/hr (in case you manage to get a spot at parking 1 near the entrance). They will tell you how this is a "circular trail" around 2,5 km long. But what they won't tell you that you will walk near the water and "in the gorge" just a few hundred meters. Everything else is up and down (mostly up) a looot of stairs from where you barely see the gorge... you end up going up and up just to return to the parking lot on a regular traffic road .. Basically you will end up paying for 8-10 EUR to spend a few minutes looking at a (indeed) pretty spring and then walking for an hour despising the rest of the experience. And if you go on a hot day, this experience will be even worse. And as icing on a cake, they do not even have proper toilets.. after "paying 10 EUR for a nice photo and than walking up hill for what feels like forever" you will get a chance to visit and refresh yourself at their "top of the notch" bathroom facilities also known as chemical toilets in which you almost pass out from the smell on a hot day. With all this said, I highly recommend to go visit Vintgar (you will walk more but enjoy every minute of it) or Soča valley (which is as blue and as beautiful as Tolmin's 150 meters of gorge you will actually see), or waterfall Kozjak and so on.. all in all, after visiting every "nook and cranny" of Slovenia and it's Triglav National Park, this is is by far the most disappointing experience. All of the beautiful pictures you see online when googling Tolmin are the same are of the location, shot from many different angles... and yes, water really is beautiful, but the entire experience "around it" is a huge disappointment.

You must to see Tolmin Gorge if you are in this part of Slovenia. Really beautiful nature.
The foothpath is settled.
You can buy cheaper ticket in the hotel Dvorec in Tolmin (6,50 EUR - ordinary price 8 EUR).

We made this beautiful walk with children and my parents - three generations! We were all amazed and we did some exercise. Natural wonder with special climate - at the time of our visit it felt like we are in the jungle (warm and high humidity).
The ticket for family is 20 eur and for seniors 7 eur.

We hiked through the Tolmin Gorge on June 14th, 2022.
We stayed at Siber Camping and walked from the camp ground to the Gorge.
We arrived at around 10 AM and at that time the parking lot was slowly filling up.
The gorge is amazing, plenty of steps to go up and down, so be a bit in shape and don't come with high heals (smile)....
We brought our dog Alice which worked out perfectly fine, but at the same time I have to say in high season I would not bring my dog and I think the Gorge is pretty packed.

This was a wonderful stop as we toured Slovenia. It had fabulous views, great walking trails and good signage. The gorge and water were perfect. It did not take too long and parking was right in front. (APPROX 90 MINUTES) Get their early to avoid crowds and get a good parking spot. Cost money to get in and park but well worth it.

A spectacular gorge, and not a hard walk (though there are quite a few steps). We walked up from the town of Tolmin to the north entrance. Cost was $6 per person (senior rate). Very reasonable for what you see and the park staff was helpful. We saw the Vintgar gorge a few days earlier, and this one was much more impressive. Stunning vistas.

The River Soča is probably one of the most beautiful rivers in the world and it is AMAZING. However, the people of the park should consider a few things which would improve the visitors' experience and the three stars I gave go to the PEOPLE, not the nature, because the nature already did its job perfectly.
Whenever you pay an entry fee, you should be able to use a decent toilet. Unfortunately, at the entrance to the park there is only one men's and one women's portable toilet. The same at the exit. I think this is shameful. Also, the cave we climbed to was closed and no sign was put to indicate that, which might have saved us a little energy. The tunnel you climb through lacks a "watch your head" sign for tall people, because they can easily hit their head on the hard rock. Finally, it wouldn't kill them to put a few trash cans in some less conspicuous area because it is really no fun to carry your trash around for miles.

If you are driving through the Soca Valley area of western Slovenia after coming over the pass in the Julian Alps, stop in the town of Tolmin, south of Kobarid and north of Most na Soci, for an incredible hike which starts near the top of a gorge, crosses a bridge then descends down the side of the gorge through magnificent scenary to the bottom, across another bridge then up again back to the top. All along the way you are looking at green and turquoise water due to the karch stone and a gorge so narrow in places that you can barely see through and down the river. This is a real "wow" experience and probably not more than 2+ miles total walk.

We spent several hours hiking this gorge south of Bovek, Slovenia. Thank God we had a navigation system, but even then we thought we were on the wrong road! The roads kept getting smaller and smaller, finally turning into a one lane road. But the reward at the end was fantastic! This hike was not a leisurely stroll, but instead a bit strenuous if you're not used to steep inclines. The place was beautiful to say the least. I could not find any information about it in our travel books, and could not believe it was overlooked! Don't miss this gorgeous hike if you're in the Soca Valley area of the Triglav.
