In the middle of the City on a high hill stands this amazing place. It is almost like coming to another world. Little visited, in fact we were the only two people there, it is an environment to absorb and reflect. The Sanctuary of Montalto della Madonna di Montalto is unique. It speaks of a different time and if you... More

If you appreciate ceramic mosaics, you must head to the front of the church, past the altar, to see the large murals that depict the story of the Black Madonna and her Church. They are amazing!

An Italian friend of ours suggested to visit Tindari and the beautiful church right on the hilltop. Heading to it you can see the church from far away as it is set on top of a mountain. We got the shuttle from the car park which takes you up to the top - pity the church was closed on a... More

Somewhat off the beaten path there is this place of pilgrimage. The Madonna is odd and stunning. There is a beautiful archeologic site directly next to it. From the top we could see a beautiful near deserted beach with lagoons and birds but did not have time to visit it.be sure to walk through the main new church to the... More

A nice sanctuary with black Madonna. The car park is free, there is a shuttle bus up to sanctuary (1 € return ticket). The views down to the beach and to Eolian islands are wonderful.

Parked in the lower car park and took the bus up to the top (cost €1 return per person). Short walk up the hill to a beautiful church and stunning panoramic views across the bay and countryside. Also a short walk from the ancient ruins and amphitheatre. Well worth a visit.

Italy is full of sanctuaries but this one is unique in that it houses the Black Madonna. The story about how the mysterious statue arrived there is very interesting. Make sure to visit the old sanctuary behind the newer one.

We were so pleased we stopped in Tindari. The views going up to the hill with to the Sanctuario are impressive but the building on top is like something from a fairy tale book. Inside its equally stunning with beautiful stained glass windows droppings beautiful light over a beautiful church. Plenty of places up the top to get a drink... More

At last I string another Sicilian pearl : Tindari! I climbed up from the car parking to the sanctuary . What an amazing breathtaking sight from the balcony down on the coast and Eolian islands ..

Built on a hilltop the church offers impressive views. The building itself is a little garish, but the black Madonna is lovely and well worth the drive. Lots of touristy stands alongside the church are fun to explore and there are plenty of places to stop for souvenirs, gelato or surprisingly good arancini.
