Nice plaza with local restaurants. I did not see any souvenir shops near the area. It is a nice place to take pictures and see the mountains.

Busy onthe Outside&Empty on the Inside

We visited the Plaza of Zipaquira after our walk thru the salt mine Cathedral.
The Town buildings and the Town Church combine different styles of architecture.
Lots of vehicle congestion and hardley any parking.

Beautiful square
Mar 2018 • Friends
We visited the town of Zipaquira after the tour of the salt mine. It was a nice town with a beautiful square with mountains at the background, lovely buildings and a cathedral with a different style. You should go inside the cathedral to see its special beauty. There are cafes around as well.

Good restaurants!

The independiente square, has many restaurants and coffee shops. The flags are standing in rememberance of so much history but still the atmosphere is busier than the Plaza de los Comuneros. Enjoy!

Great bit of History
Jan 2018 • Couples
Went to Zipaquira for a day trip as our taxi driver was giving us a ride back from the Armadillo restaurant and suggested it would be a great trip. about 28 km north, another 1 million people live there! I know everyone goes there for the mine, but I was pretty awestruck by the history - five countries that used to be as one liberated by the historical figure Simon Bolivar.
Wish I could have come during the week with the flags flying, but on the weekend, it appears they take down the flags.

Good restaurants
Dec 2017 • Couples
Not as nice a square as the Cathedral one, but it has the better restaurants. Lots of bars and noise in the evenings and a gathering place for the younger crowd. Many shops and a bit of a commercial centre at the centre of a network of small roads with great butchers and panaderia and electronic and hardware stores.

A historic landmark that must not be overlooked
Apr 2017 • Family
All visitors to Zipaquira, should not miss the opportunity of visiting this landmark, where the flags of the five countries liberated by Simon Bolivar are on permanent display. Also, some of the best Colombian food restaurants are on this square.

A quiet square
Aug 2016 • Friends
It's a nice place to take pictures and feel the atmosphere of Zipaquira place. It is a large square and features a soft wind. The buildings around are old and downs. So much light hits it. You can start a quiet walk through the village tour.

Nothing special
Jul 2016 • Family
On your walk through the city to the Salt Cathedral, you pass by the plaza de la independencia. It's just average looking and a little run down.

We really liked the town of Zipa. We took pictures in the plaza and talked to a helpful tourist information person (PIT).
