This big Cathedral is located of the main square, Comuneros. It is the main church where is held mass. You are welcome to go inside and see the simple look but still nice with its very nice columns.

it's unlike most churches you've visited, it was a nice surprise to see the interesting colors inside and see that it's all made in bare brick and stone, and seeing the cominationof many material layering, in a way it made me feel as if I was in an extremely old church even though it's not.

The cathedral is in the heart of Zipaquira, site of the famous Salt Cathedral. This church is very grand and beautiful, with colonial architecture that impresses. I was there for a tour of the Salt Cathedral, but after being dropped in the town square, came across this beautiful cathedral.

The area around Bogota is particularly hard hit by earthquakes due to the many faults (unlike Cartagena). To insure that this building has managed to stand all these centuries, the columns were constructed with mud bricks in both vertical and horizontal positions, alleviating the potential for shock waves. Being from California - where earthquakes are common (and bricks are not an acceptable building material), it was truly amazing to see.

An added bonus is the people watching in the square.

Do not pass this church by without taking a look inside. Ours was a whistle stop as a service was about to start. A unique building.

We stopped in this square on the way to the salt cathedral. There were many restaurants, shops, and locals just hanging around. It was a great stop to get a quick view of daily life in a smaller city of Colombia. It would have been great to have spent a little while longer there, but I do recommend taking some time to explore if you're in the area.

We arrived just as mass was being celebrated. The parishioners welcomed us to join.

Old but beautiful building at the head of the square. Walked in as Mass was about to start- ordination of new priests- and it was a spiritual upliftment.

Located in the main square, this is a great place to visit if you are in the area. The Cathedral's construction started in 1805 and took 111 years to complete. If you have time, take a look inside its well worth the effort.

From the outside this looks like just another Latin American cathedral, but take the time to look into the interior and appreciate the wonderful bi-coloured columns. Designed by the same guy who did the Bogota cathedral.
