Small and pretty interesting collection of exhibits related to Georgian history. Every thing displaced there had a description in both Georgian and English. The entrance cost us only 3 GEL (without guide), so in my opinion it was really great for prize.

Some lovely displays with signs in English. Unfortunately a lot of rooms were closed with no reason given which was a shame and it made the visit quite short. It was a bit hard to find the entrance but worth persisting.

A great small but informative museum is the Kutaisi Historical Museum and we visited it last week when in the city. It will take you about 1-2hours depending how fast you read and what interests you but the displays are wonderful, the price is very affordable and the collection gives you a good sense of the history of the area and the people who live(d) here.

located in the city center of Kutaisi, this tiny museum, whose entrance cots 3 lari, is quite interesting 'cos it allows you to have an idea of the history of this nice city. Too bad that there isn't a guided tour

If you are into archaeology and history you should visit this place. You will see here hundreds of artefacts from ancient time, including Colchis period to Middle ages and later times. In other cases you might feel a bit disappointed with gloomy interiors and lack of descriptions in English.

Better than expected as most exhibits have information in both Georgian and English. The artifacts are good to see and clearly care has been taken to make a proper presentation. For me the highlights were the small images from the first millemium BC (most of them animals). In enlarged form they can also be seen in Colchis fountain. I also liked the pieces of hammering art (gold and silver) from the 12th/13th centuries. Last but not least, the 19th century interior of a Georgian house is well done and good to observe.

I missed a more comprehensive overview of Kutaisi's history as part of Georgia during its heydays around 1100 and the subsequent periods of invasions and occupation. For an outsider it is quite complicated to understand the status of the different kingdoms and vassal states. A pity the 20th century is missing altogether.

Entrance fee: 3 Lari

If you are unable to find a fascinating object in this museum I suggest you don't bother to visit a museum. This is a brilliant small museum filled with fascinating artefacts ranging from ancient musical instruments to a vast wine press. Everything is labelled and there a number of really quirky items which you are unlikely to find anywhere else.
Well worth the visit and certainly the best museum we saw outside Tbilisi.

This museum is apparently in a temporary location while the main site is being refurbished, but it looks like it's taking a while! The displays are very old-school with limited information, but the 10th-16th century icons, some from nearby Galeti Monastery, are well-worth the admission price on their own
