My partner and I stayed at the second location of yurts as soon as you see the village. The lady that hosts was amazing. She was always caring for our needs and always checked up on us. We stayed for 3 nights and payed 3,600 som per night (breakfast and dinner included). There was also guides with horses right in the yurts that we stayed at. It was just a 10 min walk to go to the hot springs. The view was amazing, nature is so beautiful there.

This review is for the Nomad Life Guesthouse. We arrived after two days of hiking through Ala-Kul Pass from Karakol, just as the rain turned heavy. The husband must have seen us approaching up the path and, like a savior, urged is to his guesthouse. Though it may not look as impressive as some of the other guesthouses in the area, it was certainly the warmest as far as hospitality. Dinner, beds, a fire, private hot springs - all was included as well as provisions for sale. Boarding includes both yurts and bunkhouse accommodations.

Thankful he found us in the rain and even more thankful for the astounding hospitality of the guesthouse.

This place is most popular in this destinations. You can do hiking 2 days from Ak Su village, There is no public transport. You need to order car through company. Because road to Altyn-Arashan valley is difficult road. Therefore you need to good 4x4 car or military truck. Who dont want to hike they can go by car, but we did hiking because the way is not difficult, even for beginners if fine. It takes 5,6 hours from the ak Su village. totally 22-23km.

In Ak Su village there is also natural hot spring, 3 type of temperature warm, hot and hottest. on the way back you can visit this place. Our guide Kanat he is the best. He knows all places in Kyrgyzstan

Being one of the most famous tourist place in Kyrgyzstan, I expected lot of crowd. Even most of the guest houses were occupied. But you will not feel the crowd. 1 hr Journey to Altyn Arashan is quite bumpy and adventurous, we went in small Russian jeep (7000 soms for car with 4 sitting). We stayed in Elsa guesthouse (5000 soms for separate room). The scenery is amazing. Hot water spring is good experience (private one). We couldn't go to Ala Kul lake because Pass was covered in snow, but really enjoyed the valley. Do try fermented horse milk drink (Kymyz). In return, we hiked down which took us 4 hrs.

I will never forget this experience! We had a limited time so we decided to take a driver to get there. It is an extreme drive with stunning scenery. The drive takes about two hours and I laughed all the time because I didn’t experienced anything like this before, it is a very bumpy ride, be prepared for an incredible adventure.
The valley is stunning. We experienced rain but I didn’t stop us from enjoying the views. Definitely I had a chance to visit the area again I would like to stay there for longer to walk and enjoy the nature.
I definitely recommend visit the place!

We stayed in Ala-Kul guesthouse in Altyn-Arashan for 2 nights. This family owned place is amazing! They have good food, nice spot for gathering big or small groups. This is also close to the hot spring.

Road is very bad there. Expect to hike around 3 hours from this village to get to good road. But that's why you came to Kyrgyztan right?! The views are amazing. Perfect place to go to after Ala-Kuul lake hike. Very small village with only a few huts. Don't expect electricity there. And many of the hot springs are privatized, I didn't like that. But there is a public one near the river. Its amazing.

The trek took us 5 hours. Including picknicking, taking photo's etc. The trek was easy, exept the last hour, when the path became quite steep. The scenery is absolutely stunning. Lush green mountains, with snow capped peaks in the distance. Once we arrived in the valley, we decided to stay for a few days, instead of only one night...

Directions: take minivan 350 from Karakol. It runs from toktogul to the square in karakol. It's easy to get on. Costs: 20 som, against almost 350 som for a taxi per person. Say to the driver Altyn Arashan and they will drop you of at the head of the trail. From there: just follow the road up to altyn arashan.

Once you arrive you have two guesthouses there. The first one you meet is Yaktours from owner Valentin. The man is friendly, sometimes in en sovjet way, and very helpfull! The guesthouse was much more comfortable then we expected. At time of writing it's 750 som a night per person including three meals. The food was quite good, in perspective of the limited possibilities in a mountain hut. Acces to the hot spring is 100 som per person per day. The hotspring is clean and the tub is lined with ceramic tiles. It is very nice after a day of walking! If you don't feel like walking back and he has room in his jeep, he will drop you off at the trailhead for 300 som each. The ride in the jeep is actually an adventure itself!

The Arashan hotel I have no experience with. We exchanged one sentence with the man, which was not very friendly. But this could easily be russian habbits. We saw a lot of people stay there. It sounds like a hotel, but it is as much guesthouse as Yaktours is... Both locations are splendid!

From the valley you van do several treks to some lakes. One from 2,5 hour one way and one from 6 hours one way. Probably more hikes are possible, ask for info on the spot. Also you can rent horses for 200 som an hour. Make sure you make clear what level of horse you want!

Enjoy, it's worth it!

I confess we took a jeep up the mountain, the hike up 5+ hours over a road that looked like a rocky riverbed, did not sound like something we wanted to attempt. As it was the Russian jeep ride was probably the bumpiest I have ever been on.
The ride through the green, and rocky mountain gaps along the raging mountain stream was breath taking, as was the vistage when we arrived at the site of the 3 guest houses and our yurt.
We stayed at the yurt run by VIP tours, our ride was through Valentine and Yak tours, and we rented sleeping bags from Eco Trek. There were several different hot spring options, one for each guest house company, you can use any of them for a small charge.
Accomodations and meals were basic but good, toilets were all out houses.
We were very comfortable with the mats and bedding provided, but were glad of the sleeping bags we brought. Our feet go wet and cold from a light rain and supposedly it rains often. It was still chilly in May though polar techs and rain jackets. It would have been a slippery and miserable hike down. I think our choice to just hike once we were up the mountain was a good one.
