I visited this museum which I found fascinating showing industrialisation from a forgotten age. You could almost smell the sweat of those who toiled and strained at furnace and
Mines. The old tools were well displayed and I was interested in the clothing worn by the workers. For anyone interested in making comparisons between Black Country museum and U.K. Industrial heritage this is the place for you.
The staff were so kind and allowed me to see the exhibits even though the museum was holding a Beatles event on the day. Thank you to all staff for a truly amazing visit which I shall never forget. I will recommend this museum to any one who I know is visiting Hungary.

My sister in law lives in Ozd and so I spend much time there. It's somewhat of a run down industrial town with most of the factories closed down, but out of boredom I googled for "museum" and got a hit. So one sunny day I took off for a walk across town to see what I might find. I did not expect much because Ozd is not a tourist destination. I was quite shocked and amazed to see what I did.
I walked up to the large building thinking it was closed. No one was there. The door was unlocked and in I went. I paid a small fee and was shown to the first room. I'm a fan of old industry and machines, and so each room was a treat. There were many dioramas that were so incredibly detailed and well constructed that I thought they were real machines, yet each one was simply a 1/3 or 1/10 scale replica of actual iron mill machinery. Many were realistic down to the last miniature bolt. Many were also lighted and electrified with moving parts. I asked the curator how they got these models and she said the retired mill workers made them. Must have taken them ages. The first floor is primarily about industry and iron/steel making and showed those techniques from pre-BC all the way to the time when the factory shut down.
But it took me two more hours to go through all the rooms, and the range of material and displays was beyond what I thought would be possible in this town (and many larger towns). There was a culture room with every day artifacts (antiques) (several rooms actually), a gem and mineral display, archaeological rooms and displays dating back to prehistory including items from when the Turks occupied. There was an art room filled with works from some of Hungary's finest artists as well as a sports room with trophies, articles and photographs of those who had gone to the Olympics or otherwise pioneered some sport such as sail-planing, model plane flying, etc.
The breadth and depth of the displays as well as the detail and care that went into every room was fantastic. I suspect this museum gets very few visitors, but it's well worth a visit and a travel out of your way, even if you are in Eger. I may have been the only visitor that day, and they got someone over that spoke English minutes after I was there to answer questions and show me around.
I should also note that the old factory grounds are interesting in themselves and there are old communist-style dorms nearby all of which I find fascinating. The factory was huge (maybe a 1/2 square mile?), and I'm glad to see some renovation and new businesses moving in. The factory, museum, govt. buildings, and some other interesting architecture are all next to each other.
You can tell by the pictures the museum is large. Most of it is filled and open for viewing. Well worth the visit, and congratulations to Ozd the people who made it possible.

The staff and people were great but the energy had this mysterious element of centuries behind it. A bit of a crazy past life recall I guess. But nevertheless very informative of past history of the town.
