Actually, our guide brought us there for me to buy a fridge magnet since it's really a challenge in non-touristic Kemerovo.
It was in the beginning of August, the weather was very good so we decided to take advantage of the circumstances and to explore the place a little bit further. Well, that was an experience!
One of the things a western tourist may find curious is that large-scale coal mining was started in Kemerovo by a French-German-Belgian joint-stock company called Kopikuz in 1912. Emperor Nicholas II of Russia awarded it a concession lasting till 1972 (!). Later, when communists came to power, another foreign structure named Kuzbass Autonomous Industrial Colony managed most of the mines in 1921-1926. (Ironically, it was Lenin who personally asked experts from "bourgeois" countries to come to Russia to assist him in building socialism.) More than 300 people did a lot to restore production and they were rewarded in the favourite communist way - pressed out of the country, sent to gulags and murdered as saboteurs and foreign spies. Repulsive!
All in all, the museum is rather nice, informative and even cute plus there's a good view of the city therefrom.
I'd recommend to go there: Kemerovo is not the place to offer that much to a tourist.

Kids loved that place: real mining machinery, mine site... and many more things to explore. We were surprised when knew that some people were moved to Kuzbas from Alabama back in 1920 years

The museum is situated on the place where the first coal in our region was found. Here the Dutch settelers lived in early 20-es of the XX c. They organized the autonomic industrial colony named Kuzbass. Later the house where the great Dutch architector S. Rutgers lived was reconstructed as a museum. So you can see here different exposures dedicated to the history of coal mining. It's very interesting and popular museum in Kemerovo.

We enjoyed a tour of the museum with some locals who seemed to take great pride in the history of the town. The sight is very nice above the river, and the tour was fun, especially in the tunnel wearing the miner's cap. A comfortable walk, nice garden, and understanding of the area. Highly recommend it.

it's worth to see. Not easy to find English speaking guide here.
Nice view on the left Residential part of Kemerovo and the right Industrial. Don't forget to wear white cap of coal-miner downstairs at the sort of coal-mining plant replica.
