We stayed at the Grand Bahia principe Cayacoa in June with air Canada. They charge ridiculous prices for tours. Gregory walks along the beach and offers the same tours at a much lower rate. We went Ziplining and did a full day at the baracrdi island and national park. We literally go to the same point and do the same tour as the people in our hotel. We just go by a different transport that he sets up. He is trust worthy and a funny guy. I would highly recommend buying any tours from him. We did both tours for about the same price as one with Air Canada.

Gregory is very helpfull, friendly, flexible and kind person. I have been on the Samana with my wife for 2 weeks and we had a really great experience with Gregory. Other tours are making a pressure on you to go with them, but they will not provide that good service as Gregory. We had much better prices then on the hotel or from the other tours and you dont have to pay anything before. Also, he is very flexible, you can go whenever you want to. When you want to book a excursion, usually you have to come on the exact time and you cant "manage" your excursion, with Gregory you can go at anytime and for how long you want. if you want just a half day excursion, no problem, if you would like to stay a little bit longer, no problem. And you can save a much money with him. I really highly recommend this guy to everyone.

After debating should we take really expensive zip line tour through Air Canada representative ($ 89 USD/person), with reassurance that we already got great deal, our spouses met Gregory on the beach. At the end, he arranged transport (return trip) in private minivan & zipline tickets for a group of 8 people and total cost was $ 200 USD cheaper than Air Canada rep.
Significant saving!! I was little bit sceptic at the beginning, however, great reviews on Tripadvisor somehow comforted me. Then great surprise and another token of great service and trust – we didn’t have to pay until we return!! Well, long story short – an amazing experience and Gregory delivered everything as promised. We had great trip to mountains, completed our zipline trip, weather cooperated, trip back to hotel quick and without issues.

Highly recommended, great experience, great customer service.

After almost being pressured and then publicly chastised by the 'air canada tours' guy 'mr. Joel' when we questioned the pricing, we decided to go with the local guys.
Gregory is a cool guy, with lots of info, and absolutely no pressure.
We took the Rincon beach tour, which is the nicest beach I've ever seen. It costed 6500 pesos for the lady and I which comes to 180 canadian after the exchange. Well worth it!
All the drinks and food were included, the ride was comfortable, and the guides were super cool and informative. Going as far as stopping off at a cacoa plantation to get us fresh coffee, cocoa, bananas and 'mamajuana' (a local beer/aphrodisiac)
And once again the beach was incredible!

I have never been brave enough to book 'on the beach' before. But reading a few reviews on TA I thought I would give Gregory a try. It was great.
We booked to go to Rincon Beach. My husband is still telling everyone 'We not only had our own driver, we also had our own guide'! The boys names were Raul Ruben Johnson, (driver) Monchi Green (our guide) Raul was a very safe driver. Even though the road down to the beach is almost non existent( I read a review that 'in places it is washed away') - there is almost no road at all, just rocks to bump over. But Raul went slowly and we got there fine. Gregory advised us to leave about 8.30 - this was good advice as we got to the beach before the other trips, so the first view we got was a beautiful deserted beach. Half an hour later, there were quad bikes.horses, and trucks full of people. We stopped on the way at what was a shop really, and were shown all varieties of fruit. We chose which fruit we would like to taste. It was all cut up for us. We were given tea/coffee/mamauana to drink as well as being made a typical Dominican desert ( in a coconut shell bowl) sliced banana/vanilla/grated cocoa. All very local. We were invited to browse the shop and make purchases. We bought a hat and after exchanging money/haggling, we were back in the car. The car was comfortable, with fully functioning seat belts and Raul drove at appropriate speeds the whole day. Our guide Monchi, spoke very good English and gave us lots of information. We chatted most of the day and on the way back. At the beach the best bit was that we had our lunch on the very edge of the beach, at a table, under a canopy, with the most fantastic views. All the excursions went to a large cafe area about 50 yards back. We had rice/chicken/fish/ salad/fried plantain, which I really liked, with coke, rum and water available as we wanted it. The boys sat by our sun beds, with our bags, as we walked along the beach, advising us where to go and not to go and while we swam.
We left at 8.30 in the morning and returned to the hotel, when we wanted, as Gregory told us, you are the boss. We actually got back at about 4pm.
The best part is you only pay after the trip so you really are going to get a good time. It rained our last two days, otherwise we would have done another trip with Gregory. Thanks very much Gregory. If you want to book with him you will find him on the beach, just before you go under the bridge.

We were a group of 60 and Gregory and his team provided arrangements for a day that far exceeded my expectations — many described the day with Gregory in Samana as the high point of a 10-day trip. Really superb organization — from planning, communication, to execution.

We were traveling on a family vacation, party of 6 including my mother and my 6 y/o nephew. We were speaking with a friendly local about some of the best sites that Samana has to offer, and he introduced us to Raymond and Gregory, who were at the Grand Bahia Principe - Cayacoa beach. The local, Daniel, was very nice, informed us that we were under no obligation to tip him and that he does not receive any compensation. Daniel told us that the vendors the resort uses charge higher fees and sometimes, the vendors will pool excursions together for example, a catamaran ride, because that way they can fill a bigger boat. He told us that he just wanted to save us money. Of course, this means that there are people that are paying more for the same excursion. So we met Raymond and Gregory who right away gave us their card, phone number, and informed us that they are a legitimate business and follow guidelines established by the tourism office. We booked 2 excursions with them during our time there.

1- We booked a catamaran ride to Los Haitises National Park which included lunch and beach time at Bacardi Island for $70US pp and my 6 y/o nephew was free. The hotel was charging $98 pp. We met Raymond and Gregory at the meeting point where we paid for our trip in cash (we had only put a deposit to hold our spot). Afterwards, we boarded a van that took us promptly to a nice big catamaran. The crew on the boat was so friendly and well informed, they served as our tour guides. I lost my hat in the water, and one of the men retrieved it for me. The boat was also very safe and provided life vests to everyone on. Los Haitises was so beautiful. Afterwards we had lunch of local Dominican food and fresh fish on Bacardi Island. After the Catamaran ride back, Raymond was waiting for us with local rickshaws waiting to take us back to the hotel! It was a fun surprise.

2 - The second excursion was one that Raymond designed just for our family. We wanted to go to Limon and see the falls, but we also wanted to go to Playa Rincon. We couldn't afford to go two excursions on two days, so Raymond combined the excursions and made us a deal. We would go horseback riding to Limon falls and then have lunch in Playa Rincon where we can sunbathe and relax. We paid $70 pp. The excursion was great!!!

We saved so much, thanks Raymond and Gregory!

We meet Gregory on the beach by the bridge and talked about what he had to offer. And he gave us his word that we will enjoy it.
We decided that our group of 10 canadians would take a private Jeep Safari tour.
WOW. It was amazing.
Gregory went with us and he made sure we had cold drinks the whole time. ( Rum,beer, cola drinks and water ). We left 9:00 am and returned about 3:30 pm
We stopped at two different schools, toured the country side, also stopped at a place that makes cigars, a typical house, a water falls and then stopped for lunch on a beach but before that we all decided to enjoy the waves. We then had a great Dominican lunch( Fish, chicken, pasta salad, fruit and rice ).
Then Gregory told us we can enjoy the beach and water for as long as we want to stay. No hurry.
Well, we did just that. The waves were rolling in very nicely and we ( our ages were from mid 30's - mid 50's ) played around in the water like school kids.
I can't express enough how comforting and safe Gregory made our group feel.
If you are thinking about visiting Samana in Domincan Republic it will be worth your time and money to look Raymond and Gregory up.
He is truly a man of his word. No BS

This was my first time out of the U.S. and on an excursion. I stayed at Cayo Levantado. I loved being privately taken around and the chance to experience the culture from someone who was from the area. Let me recount my experience.

I chose the Safari and ATV tour. The first one I took was the Safari where we met Raymond the owner, Arturo the driver, and Sam the tour guide. Raymond stated that we could pay after the tour then asked 10 minutes later to be paid upfront. After driving for about 5 minutes, Raymond got out some place and we continued on with Sam. Sam was really sweet and super nice. He explained things we saw and was willing to answer all my crazy questions. Our first stop was this farm where we got to eat their fruits and veggies. It was really cute. Here this is also a little shop. HAGGLE people! We ended up blowing $150 here because we were told everything there was made by hand. Yeah right. (After exploring Samana more, I found those handmade treasures EVERYWHERE for cheaper).

We left that place and traveled on the cigar factory. It was closed so we went on to the waterfall. Im deathly afraid of heights and you have to cross two jungle bridges on the way. The terrain is horrible for someone who isn't used to it. There are boys there who will help you stay grounded. I'm not in shape so the little trek to the waterfall took a lot out of me. (Start the trip with swimsuits under your clothes, better than changing in front of others in the jungle).

We swam in the waterfall. It was beautiful and relaxing. I have never experienced anything like it. From there we went to this hut to have some authentic DRcan food. OMG soo good. There was a beach there also so we went around and could see Shakira's mansion on the hillside. A beautiful tiny spec on the mountain. After this beach, we drove back in town to Samana and went to another beach since it was St. Johns or St. Peter's day. At this point, I was worn out and didn't care to swim in or be around another beach. We stayed here for maybe 15 minutes before I asked to leave. We were not scheduled to end the tour until 4 and I was really ready to be done. We then went to another beach, the pubic beach of a Don Pablo Collection sister hotel where I was not allowed to sit in the chairs. That was aggravating since Cayo is well known and 5 miles away. Raymond randomly showed up again and I told him I was tired. Instead of being asked do I want to return early, I was asked why I am tired since I haven't even done anything. I thought that was rude and was really ready to go after that. Because the next boat wasn't for a half hour, we sat there waiting for the time to pass.

Because we were broke after buying all those trinkets early, I wanted to look around just to compare. Almost everything that I had bought previously was being sold at a booth by the beach. Even more irritated, I passed the time by looking at paintings. Apparently, Raymond and this vendor were friends and spent the remaining half hour trying to double team pressure me about buying paintings for upwards of $200. Now super pissed, I again asked to go since the drop off wasn't that far from our current location. When we made it back to the hotel, I chalked it up to me being cranky from all the travel and knew tomorrow's trip would be better.

The ATV trip was really getting in touch with nature. When meeting in the morning, I was really confused. I paid for two adults to each have their own ATV but when I got there I only saw two in total. What was so ridiculous is that my husband had to ride b**ch with another man because we had been mislead. If I pay for two adults then there should be a total of 3 ATVs one for the guide right? Before we could even get on the haphazardly looking raggedy bikes, here comes Raymond saying pay me now pay me now. At this point I wasn't thinking about the ATV shortage, but how to operate the ancient thing. Of course when we paid Raymond, he disappeared. Sam took us about a 45min-1hr trip to Playa Ricon. It was so beautiful. We stopped at a small shop and tried genuine dark chocolate, honey, and hot cocoa. It was really cute and they prepared a fruit platter for us. We continued on to the beach and ate another delicious lunch. After the beach, we headed back to Samana. We raced all the way back since a storm was coming in. We even got caught in the rain, something I thought was really awesome. This trip was better than the first. Really great.

Later when I realized the injustice of the ATV incident, I sent the owners an email and complained about how Raymond wasn't there when we came back from the ATV tour so I couldn't talk to him about it then. I voiced my opinion saying protect your clients from vendors highballing us, be available, and if Im paying almost 100 more for another ATV and it doesn't guarantee two for the guests, don't advertise it that way.

The response I got back was weak. It was Gregory saying this is how Raymond is and not even apologizing. I did enjoy myself because I was able to get closer to the people of the country more than I would have on my own but the customer service is terrible. Spend the extra money and go with Tours with Terry to have a better time.

We arranged our trip with Raymond and Gregory. They are located at he end of the beach of GBP Cayocoa Samana under the bridge to nowhere. There were 7 of us and the cost was $50 each. This included transportation, lunch at one of the beach restaraunts and beer, rum and water all day. They left it up to us when we could leave the beach to head back. They picked us up under the bridge in a mini van and drove us to the beach. The drive was great, about a hour taking you through rural Samana. The beach is not one you can get there by the typical tour bus, I guess that is why the day we were there there were about 20 people on the entire beach. You have to rent beach chairs for $5. The beach is white sand with great views. The water was clear and blue, what you always think of when picturing being down south. A great beach, a great day!
