We chose the full day whale tour combined with a trip to Cayo Levantado. Everything went very smoothly and they are great with communication before hand so you know exactly when and where you will get picked up. Bear in mind that this trip takes a really early start and you may get a pick up time of around 6am. Smooth hourly by air conditioned coach to the port and then on to Cayo Levantafo to get picked by by Kim's boat for the whale watching. We saw about 5 whales during the trip (separately not in a single pod). Magnificent experience. After the whale watching, you get returned to Cayo Levantado for a late lunch and some beach time. There are several shops selling souvenirs and coconut rum drinks, or you can just rent a beach chair for a while. Terry allows the group to decide on the when they would like to leave the island and while it may be tempting to stay late, bear in mind that depending on where your resort is (usually Punta Cana), the journey back may take some time. Definitely recommend!

In any service related business, the soft product/experience is likely the differentiator. Hiring the right people to represent your brand makes the world of difference and Samana with Terry got it right! From our zipline team members (Ariel, Franci and Concho) to our ATV/culture guide Rubio, all made our experience unforgettable.

My wife and I have ziplined multiple times before however, this was one of our most memorable excursions. We always felt safe, equipment was in good condition and we liked the unique breaking system. Ariel and Concho helped take incredible and unforgettable videos/photos with our own mobile devices. They were willing to help us push our comfort zone (no hands, upside down) which added to our special day. Amazing and thank-you!

Really enjoyed learning about the DR, its culture and how they live off the land and have a strong sense of community. Rubio (aka Benjamin Franklin?) ensure he took to time to stop, point out things of interest and let us smell/taste many different things. Homemade lunch at the beach was the icing on the cake.

The ATV experience was amazing. It allowed us to see the countryside, waterfall, beach, dirt/paved roads. We covered a lot of ground over the 6+ hours we spent on our tour. Rubio made sure we had enough variety to keep everyone happy and a little wet/muddy if we really wanted to.

The information we received prior to our cruise ship arriving was very clear. We had no problem finding them. We were back at the tender for our ship with lots of time to spare.

Did the Whale Watching with Kim from Grand Bahia El Portillo and had a great day!
Eliseo was out guide and provided transportation. Every thing was on time and went off without a hitch. Eliseo provided more than a drive, more like a short guided tour! Very informative and answered all our questions.
The whale watching was done on a large boat complete with washrooms. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable with great service. We got to see several whales playing. The boat ride is a bit rocky but to be expected as you are on the open ocean. The staff have all the tricks to help prevent seasickness and we were fine.
Back on dry land Eliseo was waiting for us right at the dock. On the trip back he even made a stop for us to get more coconut bread! You have to try this bread! Fantastic!
Terry’s outfit provides relaxed professional service without being or feeling rushed. Highly recommend them!

I would highly recommend this tour. I was picked up from my hotel in Punta Cana at 6.45am along with 8 other guests from hotels in the area. The drive felt very safe and was a really interesting view of the countryside, small towns and villages. The panga-style boat ride from Samana Bay to Cayo Levantado was a little hairy - if you sit at the front, it is very bumpy and at the back you are likely to get soaked. However, Kim's boat for the whale watching is much more comfortable! We had an amazing time viewing a mother and baby whale. Kim and her team are knowledgeable, and follow the rules for boats viewing the whales (which others did not).

My only caveat would be that the panga style speed boats are probably best avoided if you have back/neck issues.

Due to the situation with the Coronavirus, our cruise was suddenly cancelled.

I contacted Terry and in less than 48 hours we had a full refund. He was friendly, and very understanding. Even though we did not get to experience a tour with him, based on the business dealings alone, I would attempt to go Samana and take a tour.

I was scheduled to take a tour with Terry, which I needed to cancel due to the coronavirus. I notified him of my desire to cancel, and almost immediately received a credit back to my credit card. With all of the confusion at present, it was wonderful to have such a clean and efficient response; we will certainly tour with him once able. Thank you.

We went on a tour of Samana and the surrounding areas. The original tour we signed up for was the culture tour of El Valle but after the hurricane it was unpassable. Terry emailed me and offered a refund or to have a tour of different area. We are so happy we told him we still wanted to go. There were 3 adults and a 4 year old and the guide Elijah was amazing! He took us to a cigar factory, a cocoa tree, coffee trees, and a fish reserve. We got to walk the bridge over the ocean and stop for the most incredible Coco Locos. After we had lunch at a local place on the water and had fish in a coconut sauce. Then we stopped to have fresh baked coconut bread and candy. Before this trip I thought I hated coconut but it turns out I love it. If you have a chance to go with Elijah take it! It was amazing!

We chose to do the whale watching tour with the added lunch and beach excursion on Cayo Levantado. Pick up from our hotel in L.T. was seamless. The whale watching tour was amazing. But nothing to do with this company. The guides were great and we saw amazing whales! We were then dropped off on Cayo Levantado with a few other people for lunch, drinks, and a beach day. All included in our ticket. Allegedly. No one told us where to go when we were dropped off, so we just wandered over to the beach where we saw a beach bar and restaurant. Didn't seem like what was supposed to be our lunch, so we wandered on...eventually, we asked a young man who seemed like he worked on the island if he knew where we were supposed to be eating lunch. He took us back to an area with a bunch of tables and people eating. Looked promising, so we sat down and then nothing happened. We asked someone else and they asked us what we wanted to drink, so we ordered a Presidente and a pina colada. We again asked about lunch after about 20 minutes and they said they were out of food. They brought over a guy who tried to sell us seafood, we told them again - we already paid for lunch. We saw some other people with our group got food. They were also fluent in Spanish, so I'm guessing they knew who to ask. We waiting another 15 min and the original guy we asked brought us a TON of food. Which was awesome! Then we get up to leave and the guy who asked us what we wanted to drink said we had to pay. Uhhh... What. Ok, whatever, how much? 750 pesos for our two drinks! After we'd already tipped our food savior 200 pesos. We weren't happy, but gave him 700 pesos because he wasn't being very kind about it. On to the beach which we had about 30 min left due to the lunch situation. The beach was beautiful but super crowded. A beach chair was supposed to be included with our price, too. So we sit down on two chairs and you know the drill, we have to pay. This time, we said no. We already paid for these via Tours with Terry. After two people asked us, they left us alone. Nutshell, just book the whales via Whale Samana.

We arranged a tour ahead of time with Terry ([--]). He met us at the dock and loaded us (all 8) into his SUV and we headed into town to drop off DW, DD (5), and MIL with a friend of Terry's wife who braided my daughter's whole head for $25! She still has it in over two weeks later! Terry had a cooler of cold beverages for us to enjoy on the ride.

Terry drove the rest of us (two adults and kids 14, 13, and 11) up to where his family has some land that overlooks the bay - absolutely gorgeous. We then went to the trailhead where we got matched up with our horses for the ride to El Limon waterfall. The trail is pretty rough (lots of stones and uneven ground), but the guides walk or run along side to make sure the horses keep moving and we didn't have any of the problems that I read about on other threads.

Once we got to the end of the trail, it's a bit of a hike down to where the waterfall is. We were a little concerned by the people huffing and puffing their way back up that we were meeting on the way down, but it wasn't all that bad. At the waterfall, Terry had the horse guides watch our stuff while we went swimming. Terry guided us behind the falls to a small cave - very intense, but worth it! There was also a place where the kids dove into a pool and walked across the stream with the help of a rope - Terry being downstream to make sure they didn't slip. He wouldn't allow the kids to dive off the big waterfall the way some people were, but that was ok with the parents

After drying off, dressing, and hiking back up the hill, we got on the horses and headed back. Terry kept pointing out different kinds of trees along the way and had everyone sniffing various leaves - who knew that grapefruit leaves smell exactly like Froot Loops!

When we got back to the trailhead, Terry had arranged a late lunch for us of chicken (prepared two different ways), rice and beans, fried plantains (I think), bread and soda or water. It was very good, and not just because we were hungry after all the riding/swimming

We then headed back to the dock to catch a tender back out to the ship.

Terry provided a great experience for everyone involved and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him if you want to see some beautiful areas of Samaná.

I used Terry for several tours and transfers on this trip to Samana. Pickup times were all as scheduled and most things went off without a hitch. I appreciated that Terry responded to all my emails within a day as I had to reschedule several excursions with the weather. Two small concerns I had were dealt with in a timely fashion.
The zipline tour was great again (did a few years back), and our guide Glenice (sorry if misspelled) was great to talk to through the day, trading recipes with my wife. Lunch at the beach was great afterwards.
Whale watching with Kim Bedall is hit and miss, depending on the weather. Our first time out, we lucked out as a young juvenile played beside the boat. The second time out, in rough seas, made good looks at the 8 whales we saw difficult. My advice would be to google "windguru samana", and not bother going out in waves over 2 metres high.
