Superb military museum that is excellently maintained with an amazing view of the surrounding scenery. Definitely somewhere to spend a small amount after crossing the border or to visit from Punta del Diablo. Although it is in amazing shape, it needs better infrastructure with regards to explanations for tourists, such as plaques. The audio tour did not work for us, but it was only offered in the entrance to the fortress, so even if it did, it would tie up the visit way too much. All in all, its worth the few pesos and the stop to stretch your legs.

We drove from La Pedrera to visit this site. I'm so glad we did. It was the best outing of our trip outside Montevideo. Absolutely stunning. The site itself is well preserved and the various displays of historical artifacts and documents throughout the site are noteworthy. The wall structures of the fortress are amazing, but the various rooms and small edifices within it are interesting and in great shape as well. The colonial chapel is lovely, and the vistas all around from the walls are astounding. Very close to some of the camp sites in the park. Give yours elf time to visit the park too.

If you like beach walking this is a great day trip from Punta del Diablo. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours to walk there, an hour max to look around, maybe an hour to grab some lunch at the Moza cafe and 2 to 2.5 hours to walk back. Take sunscreen, water and money with you. The fort is only about 30 pesos per person and well worth the entry fee.
Tip on the walk from Punta del Diablo.... it's a beach walk... walk the full length of Playau Grande until you get to the whale watching platform where the next beach, Playa del Barco starts. From the whale watching platform look north and you'll see the whole of Playa del Barco, then a rocky outcrop, then the whole of Playa de las Achiras before another rocky outcrop. At the end of Playa de las Achiras you can see a building with a blue roof... that is the restaurant Moza (I think that's the name). Stick to the beach until the path up to that building. From there you can pick up the road with takes you the final 20 minutes inland to the fort :-)
I know there are bus options too but we really enjoyed the walk :-)

Nice to see some of the history of Uruguay. The view is amazing and you can make very nice photos from there. From Punta del Diablo its nice to visit the fort and the park by bike but you need a good bike. Take food and drinks with you. The beaches are very nice for swimming. Very clean and save. Also possible to visit it by bus but its a long walk.

Visited the Santa Teresa Fort, near the Playa de le Moza. Quit an astounding site in which many artefacts have been well preserved. Many of the rooms of the old fort are now museum-like exhibits.
One gets to experience what conditions were like here centuries ago as well as conditons.
Found the armory and magazine to be interesting. Also appreciated the presence of a chapel for soldiers including priests' clothing, chalices, religious items for use at mass celebrations etc.
Also saw the area where the sick and injured were treated during war and invasion, as well as domestic facilities etc.
Quite an experience if you're interested in history!

Neat pentagon-shaped fortress built by the Portuguese in the XVIII century right in the middle of the national park. The museum is not well equipped though and they could have done a better job in explaining the history of the place

If happens for you to be in Rocha-Uruguay, have a look of this fortress.
Has a lot of history and a good view. It is not a must but if you are arounds is a nice complex to see.

The Fortaleza de Santa Tereza, built in the 18th century and refurbished in the 20th, allows the visitor to have an idea of the history of this country, dominated by the Portuguese and the Spanish, prior to its independence in 1825/1828. The views of the region one can get from the fort on a bright sunny day are breathtaking. Besides the fort, in one of the rooms, the visitor has access to a series of models of ancient forts around the country, including the one of the "Ciudadela de Montevideo". It is worth paying it a visit. Entrance is not free, but the ticket is fairly priced.
