The museum of crafts is the only one of this kind in Lower Bavaria. Audio- and film documents complete the historical collection. The first part is about craft history from beginning to present. Printing part: history of the development of small-scale technology. Department "apprentice-journeyman-master": depiction of craft training. Furthermore: water craft: tanners, craft in the industrial era, women's craft, wood craft in the Bavarian Forest, unique inventories of a Gürtlerwerkstatt (decorative metalworkers workshop) from the region. In the museums-cinema: permanent exhibition documetaries about various crafts. The Museum also offers special changing exhibitions on craft-historical topics and contemporary arts and crafts. In the Museum children and young people (as well as school systems) can book some time or birthday parties in the Studio in order to "Act".

The museum features exhibits about the history trades in Deggendorf, Bavaria. Some of us wonder how villages became cities and survived to the present, and this museum tells that story for Deggendorf. Unfortunately, all the narratives and videos are in German, so non speakers have to learn from pictures and artifacts alone. When I visited, there was also a one room exhibit of paper art that was related to the Stadt Museum which is kitty corner to the Handwerks museum. A ticket at one museum is valid at the other.

A fascinating museum that goes back in time to the old trades such as printing, shoe-making and leather-working. It also covers a little bit of technology and design with, for example, a display of old rDios.

Inexpensive admission along with rhe adjacent museum and it has a ground floor special exhibition gallery which, when we visited, was being set up for what looked like an interesting contemporary art display. I'm sorry we missed it.

I couldn't read a thing (all in German). But the stories were well told in photos and exhibits, a great stop!

This is an interesting trip to the past. You will see how people made for living in the 19th or early 20th century. Especially interesting for people who come from small towns or villages because they may remember some tools or equipment from their childhood.
