A market for locals which will numb your senses
May 2018 • Couples
This is a market where locals buy and ply their wares. Be prepared to destroy your sense of smell when walking through the fish or meat sections. Enjoyed seeing how they buy and sell but you get hassled as a foreigner and there’s not really a lot for foreigners to buy.

An experience to behold.

Local market

It is located on the main street, it is not really big but you still can find many things with suitable price. The clothes shop and the shoes shops are on the second floor, you can bargain.

Large market
May 2017 • Friends
This market is opposite Saigon Gon Dong Ha hotel, it is old market with many kind of products, quite large to visit all. Price for food and cloths are good with reasonable price, you can get good cloths on second floor, no need to bargain much.

Interesting typical local market with many wares
May 2016 • Friends
The Dong Ha Market is typical of Vietnamese multi-vendor markets with some stalls under roof and some outside. A multitude of items are on offer ranging from food to housewares to luggage, jewelry, etc. Be sure to negotiate the price.

Because Laos is very near, there are a lot of products bought in Laos and that should make it cheap...but it isn't. Our friends told us: when they ask a price we have to half it: you have to offer a quarter. We thought it was for the goods, normally for eating they have more or less fixed prices. I ordered 'bang mi opla' and my Vietnamese friend some noodles. We should have asked first the prize.... it was 50.000,- VD! We normally pay half of it on the markets in Da Nang for better food and the places are much more clean!
The market is very big, that's true, three levels and many stairsways! And on each stair at least one beggar in age between 6 and 60. Terrible.
People are very unfriendly, they also destroyed my raincoat when they moved our bike (done by the one who should care for it).
When you visit Cho Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, you know they are only interested in your money, while in other markets where very little tourists come they see a visit by a foreigner almost as a honour and they are very friendly and explaining. Not in Dong Ha, we thought it was a lost trip but lucky my friend had also found a museum on the internet. We didn't expect anything but after visiting it we were very happy we came to Dong Ha. So: leave the market and go straight to the museum! .
