Impressive glacier, still preserving well the surrounding
Feb 2020
What an impressive 360 degree view of peaks, glacier, lake, and snowy landscapes!
Compact area, but allowing a long season to profit from fortunate ‘more snow’ portion. Off piste very recommended. A lot of ‘good’ skiers around and no cues ‘in general’, an absolute plus these days.

Superb and still largely hidden gem in the alps

Just love, love, love Kaunertal. The event of driving up to the glacier is capped off by some of the best free ride conditions in the world. Just love Kaunertal, the quiet nature of the resort as well as the new Gondel 🚠 that makes so much more of the area accessible. Will be back again - for the 22nd consecutive year next year!

A good day skiing- small but enough
Feb 2019 • Friends
We were staying in Serfaus and were looking for a quiet place to ski with no queues. Serfaus is great but we wanted some new pistes, Serfaus is quite big but not enough for a week, so if you are willing to do your research and suss out some public transport from Serfaus, Fiss or Ladis etc you can get to a glacier - Kaunertal Glacier - small but good for a days skiing with no queues!!! A good 1000 metre altitude descent on three lovely pistes, one black, one red and one blue, it took us over 11 minutes to complete each run with little stopping and at decent speed. There were other smaller runs, but some were fun and fast.

From Serfaus we used public transport

from Serfaus (Hotel Post - centre of town hotel on high street) you need to get a bus number 4236 to Prutz Postamt bus stop, cost 4.5 euros, it is early 8am bus from Serfaus and arrives at 8:34 at Prutz, the buses have electronic signs inside them which tells you each bus stop so you know when your destination stop is approaching and you can press the stop bell. Skis are placed on the ski rack of the bus. The connection to the glacier bus is at 8:40 it looks like a standard bus, but is labelled for the glacier, this is free to use with the ski pass, you pick up this connection at the same bus stop on the same side of the road as where you were dropped off, it takes a further hour to get to the glacier up a winding narrow road with some amazing views, single traffic for much of the way, you also drive over a dam wall. There are a very limited number of buses so if you miss the 8am Serfaus bus, forget it.

The reward is the quiet ski resort with lovely views and pistes, it does get cold so take decent gloves and a neck sock to keep you warm under your ski helmet and for your neck.

The return from the glacier is limited only with two real choices - 3:25pm or 4:25pm, we took the 4:25pm return bus, it gets you back to the Prutz Postamt bus stop 5 minutes after a connection to Serfaus, so you miss your connection, sadly (or not, it depends upon your outlook) there is a lovely bar/ bistro next to the bus stop, this serves great apres ski beer. With approx an hour to wait, you get the connection to Serfaus at 6:31.

Thoroughly recommend the ski resort for a day, children may not appreciate the ride

Lovely views but cable car very expensive
Aug 2018 • Family
Beautiful drive up the glacier road but do not waste your money going up the cable car or visiting the glacier crevasse. We are two adults and two kids and it cost €52, the cable car lasts all of about 5 minutes and there is nothing of the glacier to see at the top. All the ice on the way up is covered in sheets presumably to protect it from the heat but it was the most disappointing end to a two hour drive. The glacier crevasse is laughable. I get that it’s summer and it’s melting but to charge that money was banditry. Then as we had another two hour drive back we thought we’d eat at the cafe on site. Another €50 for lunch, unbelievable. Very disappointing. I’ve only given it two stars because you can’t deny the natural beauty but the paid for bit is an utter waste of time.

Review from a non-skier
May 2018 • Couples
As I cannot judge about the quality of the snow and other resort sporting features, I can only write about the overall impression. The road to the ski resort is taken care of, the personnel is well-trained, the prices for the cable cars and at the cafes are quite moderate for such type of resorts. For those like me, who do not go for skiing I would recommend Kaunertal simply because it is good to visit such a place at least once in order to feel the atmosphere. It will take you 1.5h to get from almost summer to real winter. The height of 3.108m is also unbelievable experience! Definitely warm clothes, comfortable winter boots and sunglasses are highly recommended.

Nice ski area

Nice ski area. Mostly intermediate and beginner runs with a few hard runs. The restaurant there was not too crowded.

If you are after skiing that's not the place to go for
Dec 2017 • Couples
Very limited choice of skiing slopes.Majority of lifts are old and tired.Beside that you'll have a real tough and long road trip from SFL if it's snowing outside.

Lovely view on the gletsjer
Aug 2017 • Couples
Very nice route up the Gletscher. Be aware that the toll driving up is €24 which is a steep price in my opinion. The views along the road however are magnificent. Recommended for nice weather only

Fantastic and Lovely Trip
Jul 2016 • Family
Great experience. Lovely drive with great views. Gepatsch dam is on the way, nice place to have a short stop. Road around is bit narrow and not perfectly paved. It takes amazing turns after passing the dam area and driving further up the mountain. There are many lovely points for a short stop. At the glacier there is a nicely made playing area for the children and at a 20 minutes walk there is the glacier cave (worth going there). Cable car takes you to the Karlsjoch top (3108m) where Italy and Austria share the border. Views up there are great. Parking at the base ise free. Wonderful area for a full day visit.

Spectacular
Jan 2017 • Couples
Came in Summer and now in winter, we were based in Landeck.
Both views are stunning a "Real Grand Tour" drive, eat your heart out Clarkson.
The place in winter is a Buzz with skiers also facilities for disabled skiing.
Great place to eat and enjoy the views which are breathtaking.
€23.00 per car well worth it to take in the most amazing natural beauty through the 21k mountain pass, 2700m to the top, passing rivers, and best of all standing on a Glacier.
