Beautiful short hike just outside Mbeya
Jul 2021
Easy 2 hour hike less than an hour from Mbeya town by car, motorbike or public transport. You can even drive to the summit and just walk the last 30 minutes to the lake. Beautiful view of the lake.

Arranged through the guide James Bond (who can be contacted on WhatsApp +255 752 227 220) and was really helpful.

Ngozi crater walk
Apr 2021
A great walk this morning with my son. James "Bond" (+255 752 227 220) organised our transport on a dalla dalla and motorbikes to take us up the dirt road because we were short of time and we had Hussein, the best guide ever who told us all about the local flora and fauna and how locals here use the plants. Fascinating. Amos (+255 783 545 464) is also a very good person to contact - you can count on both. You can also do the trip on your own very easily and it will save you lot of money. Ask anyone which dalla dalla to get to the Ngozi crater and ask the driver to tell you where to get off. You can either walk up the dirt road (2hrs more) or hire a motorbike, there's loads waiting at the bottom. Pick a day with clear skies if you want to see the view over the lake. It was rainy season and we had a lot of fog. Great views though over Mbeya and a really beautiful walk through the forest. Well worth it.

Great MTB trek
Jan 2021
Great. The hike is very moderate and the view at the end is absolutely gorgeous. If you are planning to go the long way, the way closest to Mbeya, you should consider taking bikes (to the top). The going is really strenuous, but the coming down is really worth it. Make sure the bike is an MTB, as you will need the shocks.

Hike to ngozi crater lake
Jan 2021 • Friends
Had an awesome climb to the lake. Around 60% of the climb is through forest. It took us around 2 hours to the top and around 1 1/2 back to where we had parked our car. The road to the start point is quite rough so you probably don’t want to take your car all the way to the start board.

We used James Bond (thanks to trip advisor😃). Good guy, didn’t get us killed. +255 67 802 7220 or 0752 227 220.

Great trip

While working in Mbeya I took a day off and went to Lake Ngozi with my colleagues. It was an amazing view. Quite a tough hike but doable in about 3-4 hours return. Definitely worth it.

Tukuyu Beauty and Unbelievable sights - Rungwe Mbeya
Oct 2018
I just stabled in to this beauty . Tukuyu region has Tradition of coldness and really unpredictable works of God . Few months ago , Snow fell from the sky and Tukuyu became like Europe. The next wonder of the world is the Eclipse that to place in Tanzania and was best see in Tukuyu with a full blackout . This crater is said to be the second biggest crater in Africa . You will have that mouth opening astonishment especially if you never thought this things are there. Deep caves with beautiful scenes , views that are dense with bushes... This place need at least to day just for get enough of the rich history from the local . The lake water is crazy cold and still
Mbeya is full of amazing scenes , from Hot water springs, Mountain and forest . But Ngozi to me by surprise.

But my concern is the roads to this are of Tanzania .You need a familiar drive with the region or else be a slow driver .The S corners are deadly. Be super careful .

Beautiful adventure and James Wazungu Safaris trustworthy and caring guide!
Feb 2019 • Solo
I stayed in Mbeya, Tanzania between february - may 2015 while I wrote my Master's thesis. I got in contact with James Wazungu Safaris (James Bond) through a new contact in Mbeya.

I expressed interest in Ngozi Crater Lake to the a new contact in Mbeya who then called James. James organized the whole trip to Ngozi Crater Lake. He hired car, driver, brought water, food etc and picked me up at my house. We were about 5 people hiking.

The hike was pretty intense since it is a step climb in the jungle (and especially due to my high altitude sickness as I had just arrived in Mbeya). James was were helpful. While the others hiked faster, James walked with me and even carried my bag. James is fluent in English!

The view at the top is stunning! But the actual hike is also an adventure. It is special to be in the middle of the jungle. I saw large black and white monkeys jumping in the trees, might have been Colobus monkey.

During the hike I hired James to be my translator during my whole stay and work with my Master's thesis. We spend a lot of time together every week. He did an excellent job! Kind, ambitious, trustworthy and fun to be around! I highly recommend James as safari guide!
