- Vicy W3 contributionsGet a guideThe fort in itself wont show you much about the place, theres no signs or info, and as others have said it's currently being used as government offices and in need of of attention. So in order to enjoy it, get yourself a guide. We were met at the front by a lovely guide called Ignatious, he informed us of the history and pointed out parts of the fort we'd likely have overlooked by ourselves. You wont need more then half an hour here, but if you are around the area and find you've got spare time and like a bit of history, its worth a quick visit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- Suj_YRCalgary, Canada175 contributionsExploring a Historic FortThe fort is comparatively smaller and in poorer condition compared to Galle Fort. However, there's still a lot to explore and appreciate. Our guide, Mr. Ignatious Gnanaseelan, provided an excellent tour of the fort. It's evident that the fort requires substantial restoration and preservation efforts, yet it holds significant value and merit for conservation.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 14, 2023

- Channa EkanayakeBentota, Sri Lanka109 contributionsExcellent experience"While on a round trip, we visited Batticaloa Dutch Fort. Despite the dedicated efforts of our tour guide, Ghanaseelam who is working tirelessly to promote it, we observed that, from the government's perspective, the fort is completely run down and not adequately maintained. The surrounding area had overpowering gully smells, and the overall appearance was unclean. Unfortunately, the condition did not make it worth the visit.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 17, 2024

- TravelMyAsia T2 contributionsDutch fort at Batticola, a historic fort with a great ambience but is lacking on the inside. We visited the Dutch Fort 2 days ago on the 7th of February and was delighted to see the fort from the outside with a beautiful lake surrounding the old building. The ambience looked great, but the inside is now used by the government and is not really maintained for tourism, with several offices built. Mr. Gnanaseelan, the tour guide at the fort was very enthusiastic and taught us the unique history of the fort and its minor attractions on the inside like the artillery stationed on top of the walls and the materials used to make different sections of the wall. Hope to see the place reinnovated for tourism in the future!!!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 9, 2024

- Willeke_Huigens's Gravendeel, The Netherlands91 contributionsGreat visitVisiting the dutch fort was a great experience. We were guided by mr. Gnanaseelan, who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the fort and its history. At the moment the fort is used by the government, so a lot of offices are there. Nevertheless you can visit the fort and walk over the ramparts, see the history there and have beautiful views on top of that. I understood from mr. Gnanaseelan that there are plans to change the fort in a (for tourists) more attractive place. We really hope that the fort can be preserved for future generations.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024

The fort is in bad condition!! Gouvernement offices inside. Electric wires everywhere. Electric polls blocking the views of canon firing points… the moment you enter a tour guide is approaching happy to explain thongs he talks so fast you can’t understand him after a while its annoying… and finally he want you to pay . He should tell that before starting…. The place needs urgent restoration and is not ready for tourism

(1213) Marble Beach
(Trincomalee District) ***
It is a shallow coastal coastal area for safely over one kilometer to Batticaloa, about 30 km north of Kalkudah and Passikudah. Apprentice trained for water sports is a good beach. In recent years, there have been very luxurious hotels in these areas.
