This ferry was worth the trip back to Tanzania. We booked the tickets online prior to going on our vacation and we received an email from the office confirming our request and with payment info. I will say to double and triple check the information that you receive via email because prior to paying, they did send us some incorrect info on the itinerary (such as time of ferry) but I emailed them back and they quickly corrected it and resent the itinerary. This all happened before I paid so I am not sure what the process would be if you catch an error after you've paid. The day before leaving Zanzibar, make sure to go to the ferry office to pick up the actual tickets.
Make sure to bring your receipts/emails because one of our tickets was missing and I showed them proof of purchase so they were able to print one out for me right there. Also, I highly recommend booking the business class fares. They are not very expensive but very worth it. When we arrived at the terminal there were SO many people there and we had initially booked economy seats. But once we saw the amount of people we quickly asked an employee if we can upgrade and they took us to the office where they allowed us to pay the difference and upgrade seats. Also, when you arrive at the terminal make sure to go get your passport stamped before making any line to board. Our ferry was on time and we arrived in Tanzania earlier than we expected. We also did not experience any issues with the ferry company or with any part of the ferry trip.

What an experience we had with Zanzibar Quest! Particularly with Murtala. I’ve been to Africa a couple of times but never in Zanzibar. I’m quite forgetful at time so I’ve lost a good share of personal items in my travels to Africa. I never got my items back, no pun intended!

While in Zanzibar for Easter holidays, as we arrived at the airport we rushed out of the car, picked our sleeping child from the back seat and accidentally forgot her iPad. That being our child’s iPad my wife and I weren’t fully aware that we had it left in the car. We comfortably checked in and sat at the lounge with our child still asleep, it was a very early trip.

As we woke her up on transit she started looking for her iPad. I thought we had left it at the hotel so I called a few times. What I hadn’t noticed was a text message from Murtala on WhatsApp reminding us that we had left the iPad in the car, particularly with Othman. But they assured us that they would send it back to us in the States, which they did.

So, I’ll always be grateful to Zanzibar Quest on behalf of my family for smooth itineraries during our stay, and most importantly for proving their honesty to my family.

Me being a little nosy I had a glance at their negative reviews. Couldn’t help myself so I asked Murtala. After all that experience why such reviews? He was shockingly honest about it. “We made bad calls in the past, we made mistakes, made some clients unhappy and paid the price” :O

We’ll be back again in August :)

Murtala of Zanzibar Quest was a lifesaver! He was organized, responded promptly to emails and made sure our trip from our resort in Pongwe to our Dar e Salaam hotel went as smoothly as possible. Our taxi driver from Pongwe to Stonetown picked us up on schedule, had our tickets ready for us and delivered us on time to the ferry dock in Stonetown. The ferry terminals and the ferry trip were quite an experience so be prepared for that! When we arrived in Dar e Salaam the terminal was extremely chaotic, but we saw a porter with our name and he helped us find our luggage and get to our taxi. I don't know what we would have done if all of this hadn't been arranged ahead of time by Murtala. Overall we spent 2 weeks in various parts of Tanzania and thankfully everything went smoothly and we were very impressed, especially with Murtala and Zanzibar Quest. I highly recommend working with them!

Be aware, read very carefully when you book via Zanzibar Quest!

This is a site which copies the Azam Marine Ferry mask 1:1: It fakes the booking mask of Azam Marine Ferry, so that in the first second you believe you were booking directly via Azam.
And to be honest, if you search after ferry, this website pops out first thanks to their algorithm.

After completing the formular for my family (2 x adults, 1 x 12 and 1 x 8 years old) I was asked to wait. A day later I received an invoice and payment link. After my payment, I realised this was not Azam and they put 3 x adults on 9:30 ferry and the child on 12:30 ferry! My total bill was 278 USD, an economy ticket for child equals to 30 USD, so obviously they are trying to charge service fee.
It doesn't make sense at all to letting a child travel by its own.

If you are traveling to Zanzibar you MUST book a tour with Adam in Jambiani Village. He has lived there his whole life and knows everything there is to know about the location, culture, and history. He and his brother are incredible tour guides and seeing the village is something i would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Zanzibar. They ensured a safe and relaxing experience, I wish i had more time to take another tour with Adam!

Have u been to Prison Island?also known as Changuu Island is a popular tourist attraction in Zanzibar that is visited by many tourists every year. It is a small island situated about 30 minutes boat ride away from the main city Stonetown. The island has a storied past, including being used as a detention center for slaves before being converted into a prison facility.

All was good getting Azam ferry tickets with Zanzibar Quest last time I travelled (July 2023) but March 2024 they failed to provide the tickets that I had paid for. I only found this out on the morning I was due to travel and had to buy them all again. Despite many promises from Murtala that I would be refunded, this has yet to happen. My advice is to book direct ferry tickets with Azam Marine via their website rather than with Zanzibar Quest.
**update** Now, after three months, I have been refunded.

Oh my. This company and their rep, Murtala, who serviced our account were amazing. And I was a rookie at international travel so I needed a lot of hand holding. Plus we were in rural Tanzania for two weeks so internet was spotty and I couldn’t communicate regularly.
I recommend them highly and would use them again. We had the same taxi driver twice in different cities which was comforting.
Thank you Murtala.

I was in contact by chance with MR Murtala operation coordinator of Zanzibar Quest to help me for Resrvation of ferry from Dar es salaam to Zanzibar, then I asked him to help me to arrange everything about our travel . He helped us in reservation of all transportation in Dar es salaam and Zanzibar and also arranged 4 tours in Zanzibar ( Dolphin tour, Aquarium, Snorkling, and Stone town tour ) all was perfect well organised and exactly on time.. Also he arranged Safari tour to Mikumi Park from Dar es salaam which was amazing.
All arrangements was done through emails and payment was done through PayPal..
Finally to mention that 2 days before our travel one of our family was sick and we decided to postpone our travel for one week and I told Mr Murtala and he changed all the arrangements without any penalties and of course this was very appreciated.
I really recommend this company and thank you again and again Mr Murtala
