A visit to big body spice farm is what you'd expect on a typical spice farm tour. There's a negotiable entry fee (ours was approx. USD15 per person), after which a local guide from the farm takes you round the different plants/trees/spices while giving a brief overview of each one. There was quite a wide variety of these on the day of our visit - coffee, cardamom, cinnamon, curry, vanilla etc. Visitors are also presented with gifts (usually artefacts such a crown, a necktie and a bracelet all made from plants on the farm) as well as allowed to drink fresh coconut water for free and eat some fruits at an additional fee. Towards the end of the tour, visitors are able to purchase local spices, perfume and incense all made from the plants within the farm (generally in the range of USD10 per piece).
At the end of it all, an optional tip to the tour guides is "encouraged." 🙂
Overall it's an interesting experience.

Our guide was Big Body who was entertaining us from the beginning till the end of this very interesting tour together with his helper. While walking though the Spice farm we stopped by each plant and enjoyed short explanation in a funny way. We enjoyed the show of coconut palm climbing, each of us got some palm leaves jewellery made by local people and at the end we enjoyed tasting of some local tropical fruit. We got the opportunity to buy some farm products (cosmetics, soaps) made of spices and flowers grown on this farm and also some typical spices (of course). Btw they are fresher than those sold somewhere in the streets and souvenir shops, so I really recommend to buy spices right here. As there is no official entrance fee, you will feel like you want to donate in form of buying some products. We also gave some small tips to the people involved in guiding us. Whole tour lasts about 1 1/2 hour and it is worthwhile to go there.

Our driver has recommended us this farm and we were not disappointed.
I do have to warn you, apart from the entrance fee, you feel like you have to tip several people or buy several things, but of course its all up to you.
We did tip because the people were really friendly and funny and we did learn a lot.
We did also buy some things to support the community, we wanted to buy spices anyway and I dont think its much more expensive than at the spice market...

We went to the spice farm with the family and we had a great experience. The entrance fee was negotiable depending on how they felt. Then you have to pay the 3 guides which worked out at 5 dollars each.
There were plenty of varieties of fruits and spices and we were treated to fresh coconut water and fruits from the farm.
Reasonably priced and a good experience.

How all these spices are grown!?!?
Our driver (Benzino what’s app: 255 777 399 827) recommended Big Body’s Spice Farm- Mohammed, a younger brother to Big Body gave us the tour. He was so knowledgeable and patient with our annoying questions. Bring small bills for buying perfumes and salves in the middle of the tour. It is a really well done experience and would suggest this tour to everyone(even if you don’t cook).

Our guide around the different spice plants was pleasant and very knowledgeable. It was an interesting tour. We did feel expected to tip each person though..the guide, the man who gave us different fruits to try, the men who climbed the coconut palms etc. (we had already paid an entrance fee). But we learned a lot. I wanted to buy spices which I did...but the choice was quite limited.

He showed us many different spices and how they grow. We got to taste them, and it was very, very informative. Woolworth the visit and it also supports the local community. Highly recommended.

So different than what we expected, but absolutely worth a visit! Very interesting, entertaining and insightful. We bought lovely spices and spiced coffee and tea, which is supporting the local community. The fruit tasting afterwards was also tasty and interesting.

The tour was very informative and we learnt about the different spices and fruits that grow here in Zanzibar. We were guided through the spice farm which was kind of jungle like.
We ate fruit that we have never tasted before such as- jackfruit and also we had well known fruits like mango, passion fruit, oranges, watermelon and were given fresh young coconut to drink and got to eat the malai- (jelly of the coconut). We were served a most delicious lunch of fried fish, vegetables, sauce and a dish called pilau which is rice with spices that are grown on the farm.
The spice farms are of the community and are well taken care of. The people really care for the land and are very proud of what they grow for Zanzibar.
